Job Description
We are seeking a highly skilled, dedicated, and safety-conscious Mechanical Fitter to join our crucial regional support and maintenance team based in East Cobb, Marietta, GA. While Rio Tinto’s primary operations span the globe, this role is instrumental in ensuring the operational excellence and reliability of various mechanical systems and equipment that support our broader logistical and administrative infrastructure within the region. As a Mechanical Fitter, you will be at the forefront of maintaining, troubleshooting, and repairing a diverse range of industrial equipment and fixed plant components. This hands-on position demands a strong foundational understanding of hydraulic, pneumatic, and complex mechanical systems, alongside the ability to execute tasks both independently and as a contributing member of a collaborative team. Key Responsibilities
- Perform preventative and corrective maintenance on a variety of mechanical equipment, including heavy machinery, pumps, motors, gearboxes, conveyors, and fixed plant components.
 - Diagnose faults and execute precise repairs on hydraulic, pneumatic, and complex mechanical systems.
 - Adhere strictly to all company safety standards, policies, and procedures, including Lock Out Tag Out (LOTO) protocols, confined space entry, and working at heights.
 - Accurately read and interpret technical drawings, schematics, and service manuals to facilitate effective repairs and maintenance.
 - Conduct routine inspections to identify potential mechanical issues, predict failures, and proactively recommend robust solutions.
 - Document all maintenance activities, repairs, inspections, and parts usage accurately and promptly using digital systems.
 - Collaborate effectively with other technicians, engineers, and operational staff to optimize equipment performance, enhance reliability, and improve efficiency.
 - Participate actively in continuous improvement initiatives, training programs, and professional development opportunities to enhance skills and knowledge.
 - Ensure the availability and proper functioning of critical spare parts, tools, and specialized equipment.
 
Required Skills
- Minimum of 3 years of hands-on experience as a Mechanical Fitter or a closely related role in an industrial or heavy manufacturing setting.
 - Proven experience with the maintenance, overhaul, and repair of heavy industrial machinery and fixed plant equipment.
 - Strong understanding and practical experience with hydraulic and pneumatic systems, including fault diagnosis and component replacement.
 - Ability to read and interpret complex engineering drawings, schematics, Piping and Instrumentation Diagrams (P&IDs), and technical specifications.
 - Proficiency in using a variety of hand tools, power tools, and specialized mechanical testing equipment.
 - Excellent fault-finding, root cause analysis, and problem-solving skills.
 - Demonstrated commitment to workplace safety and a thorough understanding of safety procedures and regulations.
 - Valid driver’s license.
 
Preferred Qualifications
- Relevant trade qualification or certification in Mechanical Fitting, Millwright, Industrial Mechanic, or an equivalent accredited program.
 - Experience with Computerized Maintenance Management Systems (CMMS) such as SAP, Maximo, or similar platforms.
 - Familiarity with vibration analysis, laser alignment, and other predictive maintenance techniques.
 - Basic welding and fabrication skills (e.g., stick, MIG) for minor repairs.
 - Current First Aid and CPR certification.
 - Experience working in a large-scale industrial or mining-related environment.
