Job Description

We are seeking a highly motivated and experienced Geologist to join our dynamic team, contributing to Rio Tinto’s global exploration and resource definition efforts. While this role is based in the Marietta, GA region for administrative and project support, the successful candidate will play a critical role in various geological projects across our North American operations, with potential for travel to field sites. As a Geologist, you will be instrumental in interpreting geological data, conducting field investigations, and contributing to robust resource models that underpin our project development. Key Responsibilities

  • Conduct detailed geological mapping, logging of drill core and cuttings, and sampling programs.
  • Interpret geological, geochemical, and geophysical data to define mineralized zones and develop exploration targets.
  • Develop and maintain robust geological models using industry-standard software.
  • Prepare comprehensive geological reports, technical presentations, and resource estimates.
  • Ensure strict adherence to company safety protocols, environmental regulations, and best practices in all field and office activities.
  • Collaborate effectively with geophysicists, geochemists, mining engineers, and environmental specialists.
  • Participate in field campaigns, including supervising drilling operations and managing geological contractors.
  • Contribute to continuous improvement initiatives in geological procedures and data management.

Required Skills

  • Bachelor's degree in Geology, Geological Engineering, or a related field.
  • Minimum of 3 years of progressive experience in mineral exploration or mine geology.
  • Proficiency in geological software packages (e.g., Leapfrog, Surpac, Micromine, ArcGIS).
  • Strong understanding of structural geology, mineralogy, and petrology.
  • Demonstrated experience in geological mapping, core logging, and sampling techniques.
  • Excellent data analysis, interpretation, and problem-solving skills.
  • Valid driver's license and ability to travel to remote field sites.
  • Commitment to safety and environmental best practices.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Master's degree or PhD in Geology or a related discipline.
  • Professional Geologist (P.Geo) designation or equivalent.
  • Experience with specific commodities such as copper, gold, or iron ore.
  • Familiarity with advanced geostatistical methods and resource estimation principles.
