Job Description

We are seeking a highly motivated and detail-oriented Revenue Officer to join our team, specifically focusing on tax collection and local government area (LGA) revenue generation in Rumuola, Port Harcourt. This vital role involves direct engagement with taxpayers, ensuring compliance with state and local tax laws, and contributing significantly to the financial health of the state and the specific LGA. Key Responsibilities

  • Assess and collect various taxes, levies, and rates from individuals and corporate bodies within the assigned Local Government Area (Rumuola).
  • Educate taxpayers on their civic responsibilities regarding tax compliance and the benefits of timely tax payments.
  • Conduct field visits and inspections to identify new tax sources and ensure compliance among existing taxpayers.
  • Maintain accurate records of all tax assessments, collections, and outstanding arrears.
  • Issue tax assessments, demand notices, and receipts in accordance with established procedures.
  • Prepare daily, weekly, and monthly revenue collection reports for management review.
  • Assist in the enforcement of tax laws and regulations, escalating non-compliance issues as necessary.
  • Respond to taxpayer inquiries and resolve disputes professionally and efficiently.
  • Collaborate with other government agencies and departments to enhance revenue generation and enforcement efforts.
  • Participate in community sensitization programs to raise awareness about tax obligations and government initiatives.

Required Skills

  • Strong understanding of Nigerian tax laws and regulations, particularly at the state and local government levels.
  • Excellent communication, negotiation, and interpersonal skills.
  • Proven ability to work accurately with figures and maintain meticulous records.
  • High level of integrity, ethical conduct, and accountability.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel) and basic computer literacy.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree or HND in Accounting, Finance, Economics, Public Administration, or a related field.
  • Minimum of 3 years of experience in revenue collection, taxation, or a similar financial role, preferably within a government agency or reputable private firm.
  • Membership in a recognized professional body (e.g., CITN, ICAN, ANAN) is an added advantage.
  • Familiarity with tax software or revenue management systems.
  • Knowledge of the Rumuola/Port Harcourt local terrain and business environment.
