Key Responsibilities

  • Accurately and efficiently prepare a variety of food items, including chopping vegetables, portioning meats, preparing sauces, and assembling ingredients according to recipes and daily prep lists.
  • Ensure all food items are prepared to the highest standards of quality, taste, and presentation.
  • Maintain a clean, organized, and sanitary workstation, adhering strictly to all food safety and hygiene regulations (HACCP, local health codes).
  • Assist in receiving and storing deliveries, ensuring proper rotation (FIFO) and inventory management to minimize waste.
  • Collaborate effectively with line cooks, chefs, and other kitchen staff to ensure smooth service and timely delivery of orders.
  • Monitor ingredient levels and communicate needs to maintain adequate stock for service.
  • Operate and maintain kitchen equipment safely and efficiently.
  • Support dishwashing and general kitchen cleaning tasks as needed to maintain a pristine environment.
  • Contribute to a positive and respectful team environment, supporting colleagues and adapting to changing priorities.

Required Skills

  • Proven basic knife skills and understanding of various cooking methods.
  • Ability to follow recipes and instructions accurately.
  • Strong understanding of food safety and sanitation practices.
  • Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced and demanding kitchen environment.
  • Excellent communication and teamwork skills.
  • Physical stamina to stand for extended periods, lift up to 50 lbs, and work in a hot environment.
  • Reliable and punctual with a strong work ethic.
  • Must be legally authorized to work in Canada.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Previous experience (6+ months) in a kitchen or food preparation role, preferably in a full-service restaurant.
  • Food Safe Level 1 certification.
  • Basic culinary education or training.
  • Familiarity with inventory management principles.
  • Ability to speak both English and Punjabi is an asset, given the diverse community of Surrey.
