Key Responsibilities

  • Investigate, research, and report on a wide array of local news stories, events, and critical issues relevant to Ojuwoye, Mushin and its immediate surrounding areas.
  • Conduct thorough and insightful interviews with diverse sources, including community leaders, government officials, business owners, and local residents, to gather factual and nuanced information.
  • Write clear, concise, engaging, and highly accurate news reports, in-depth features, and informed opinion pieces for both print and digital publication platforms.
  • Rigorously verify all facts, data, and sources to ensure the highest level of journalistic integrity, credibility, and accuracy in all published content.
  • Attend and provide coverage of press conferences, community meetings, public events, court proceedings, and other newsworthy gatherings as required.
  • Develop and consistently maintain a robust and reliable network of sources within the Ojuwoye, Mushin community.
  • Collaborate effectively with editors, photographers, videographers, and other team members to produce comprehensive and well-rounded news packages.
  • Adhere strictly to all journalistic ethics, company guidelines, and relevant media laws and regulations.
  • Proactively monitor local developments, trends, and identify potential news angles and breaking stories.
  • Utilize basic multimedia tools to enhance storytelling, including taking high-quality photographs and basic video footage for digital platforms.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Journalism, Mass Communication, English, Political Science, or a closely related field.
  • Previous professional experience (at least 2 years) covering local government, community news, or specific beats such as crime, education, or health.
  • Familiarity with digital content management systems (CMS) and online publishing tools.
  • Basic photography and videography skills, with experience in using them for news gathering purposes.
  • In-depth knowledge of the Ojuwoye, Mushin area and its diverse communities, including key stakeholders and local dynamics.
  • Fluency in local languages, particularly Yoruba, is considered a significant advantage for community engagement.
