Key Responsibilities
- Assess, plan, implement, and evaluate patient care plans in collaboration with the healthcare team.
- Administer medications and treatments as prescribed by physicians, ensuring patient safety and adherence to protocols.
- Monitor patient conditions, interpret vital signs, and respond effectively to changes in patient status.
- Document all aspects of patient care accurately and comprehensively in electronic health records.
- Educate patients and their families on health management, treatment plans, and post-discharge care.
- Collaborate with physicians, specialists, therapists, and other healthcare professionals to ensure coordinated patient care.
- Participate in interdisciplinary team meetings and contribute to care planning and problem-solving.
- Maintain a safe and therapeutic environment for patients, adhering to infection control and safety standards.
- Provide compassionate support and advocacy for patients and their families.
- Engage in continuous professional development and participate in quality improvement initiatives.
- Act as a preceptor or mentor for new nurses and nursing students as opportunities arise.
Required Skills
- Current registration as a Registered Nurse with a recognized nursing regulatory body (ability to obtain registration with BCCNM – British Columbia College of Nurses and Midwives).
- Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) or equivalent from an accredited institution.
- Minimum of 2 years of recent acute care experience in a hospital setting.
- Demonstrated strong clinical assessment, critical thinking, and problem-solving skills.
- Proficiency in administering medications and treatments.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced, demanding environment.
- Commitment to patient-centred care and professional ethics.
- Basic Life Support (BLS) certification.
Preferred Qualifications
- Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) or Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) certification depending on specialty.
- Experience with electronic health record systems (e.g., Cerner, Epic).
- Specialty certification (e.g., Critical Care, Emergency, Perioperative).
- Experience in a Canadian healthcare setting (though not required for this specific role aimed at American nurses).
- Demonstrated ability to work effectively with diverse patient populations and cultural backgrounds.
