Key Responsibilities
- Provide comprehensive nursing care to patients based on established care plans, physician orders, and professional nursing standards, ensuring patient safety and comfort.
- Conduct thorough and ongoing patient assessments, including physical, psychological, social, and cultural aspects, and document findings accurately and timely.
- Administer medications and treatments as prescribed, meticulously monitoring for adverse reactions, effectiveness, and ensuring proper dosage.
- Develop, implement, and rigorously evaluate individualized patient care plans in close collaboration with the interdisciplinary healthcare team, patients, and their families.
- Educate patients and their families on health management, disease prevention, medication adherence, and crucial post-discharge care instructions.
- Act as a steadfast patient advocate, ensuring patient rights are respected, promoting informed decision-making, and that care decisions consistently reflect patient preferences.
- Collaborate effectively and respectfully with physicians, allied health professionals, and other team members to optimize patient outcomes and streamline care delivery.
- Maintain accurate, confidential, and comprehensive patient records in full compliance with organizational policies, privacy regulations, and professional standards.
- Actively participate in quality improvement initiatives, safety audits, and professional development activities to continuously enhance nursing practice and patient care.
- Respond promptly and effectively to medical emergencies, providing immediate and life-saving care in accordance with established protocols and advanced cardiac life support guidelines where applicable.
Required Skills
- Current registration or eligibility for registration with the College of Registered Nurses of Newfoundland and Labrador (CRNNL) is mandatory.
- Bachelor of Nursing (BN) or a recognized Diploma in Nursing from an accredited institution.
- Demonstrated clinical competence in general nursing practice, with a solid understanding of patient care principles.
- Exceptional communication and interpersonal skills, with the proven ability to work effectively and collaboratively in a diverse team environment.
- Strong critical thinking, analytical problem-solving, and sound decision-making abilities, especially under pressure.
- Ability to effectively prioritize and manage a diverse and complex patient caseload with efficiency and compassion.
- Proficiency in utilizing electronic health record (EHR) systems and other relevant healthcare technology.
- Current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification; Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) may be required for specific units.
Preferred Qualifications
- Minimum of one (1) year of recent, full-time acute care experience in a hospital setting.
- Experience in specialized clinical areas such as Emergency, Critical Care, Operating Room, Medical-Surgical, or Mental Health.
- Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) or Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) certification.
- Demonstrated commitment to continuous learning, professional growth, and leadership potential.
