Key Responsibilities

  • Provide direct nursing care to patients, including assessment, planning, implementation, and evaluation of care plans.
  • Administer medications and treatments as prescribed by physicians, adhering strictly to established protocols and safety standards.
  • Collaborate effectively with interdisciplinary teams, including physicians, allied health professionals, and support staff, to ensure comprehensive patient care.
  • Monitor and document patient vital signs, symptoms, and responses to treatments, escalating concerns as necessary.
  • Educate patients and their families on health conditions, treatment plans, and self-care techniques.
  • Maintain accurate and thorough patient records in compliance with regulatory and organizational standards.
  • Participate in quality improvement initiatives and adhere to all hospital policies and procedures.
  • Demonstrate critical thinking and problem-solving skills in complex clinical situations.
  • Advocate for patients' needs and rights, ensuring a patient-centered approach to care.
  • Supervise and mentor junior nursing staff, students, and other healthcare providers as required.

Required Skills

  • Current registration in good standing with the College of Nurses of Ontario (CNO).
  • Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BScN) or equivalent.
  • Current Basic Life Support (BLS) or CPR certification.
  • Demonstrated strong clinical assessment and critical thinking skills.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced, dynamic environment.
  • Commitment to patient safety and quality care.
  • Proficiency in electronic health record (EHR) systems.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Minimum of one year of recent acute care experience in a hospital setting.
  • Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) certification.
  • Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) certification (if applicable to unit).
  • Specialized certifications (e.g., Critical Care, Emergency Nursing) relevant to the area of practice.
  • Demonstrated experience in a tertiary care or regional health centre.
  • Membership in a professional nursing organization (e.g., RNAO).
