Job Description

Are you an experienced and meticulous Quantity Surveyor with a proven track record in cost estimation and project billing within the construction industry? Julius Berger Nigeria Plc, a cornerstone of infrastructure development in Nigeria, is seeking a highly skilled and dedicated Quantity Surveyor to join our dynamic project team in Port Harcourt. This is a pivotal role where your expertise will directly contribute to the financial success and operational efficiency of our diverse construction projects in the region, particularly within the bustling Mile 1 Market area. You will be instrumental in ensuring projects are completed within budget and to the highest standards of financial control. As a Quantity Surveyor, you will be responsible for managing all costs relating to building and civil engineering projects, from initial calculations to the final figures. You will work to minimize the costs of a project and enhance value for money, while still achieving the required standards and quality. This involves a comprehensive understanding of contractual obligations, procurement strategies, and risk management. Your day-to-day will involve detailed financial planning, monitoring progress, managing variations, and resolving contractual disputes. Key Responsibilities

  • Prepare tender and contract documents, including bills of quantities, for various construction projects.
  • Undertake cost analysis for project work, including value engineering and life cycle costing.
  • Assist in establishing a client's requirements and undertaking feasibility studies.
  • Perform risk and value management and cost control during the construction process.
  • Advise on procurement strategy and contract matters.
  • Identify, analyze, and develop responses to commercial risks.
  • Prepare and analyze costings for tenders.
  • Allocate work to subcontractors and manage their payment applications.
  • Carry out valuations of work in progress, including site visits and assessments.
  • Prepare interim and final payment applications for clients.
  • Negotiate and agree on variations, changes, and claims with clients and subcontractors.
  • Provide advice on contractual claims and ensure compliance with contract terms.
  • Maintain up-to-date knowledge of industry trends, regulations, and best practices in quantity surveying.

Required Skills

  • Bachelor's degree in Quantity Surveying, Civil Engineering, or a related field.
  • Minimum of 4 years of proven experience as a Quantity Surveyor in the construction industry.
  • Demonstrable expertise in cost estimation, budgeting, and financial reporting.
  • Strong understanding of construction contracts, procurement methods, and commercial management.
  • Proficiency in relevant software (e.g., MS Excel, AutoCAD, quantity surveying software).
  • Excellent analytical, negotiation, and problem-solving skills.
  • High level of attention to detail and accuracy.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a multidisciplinary team.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Professional certification (e.g., Nigerian Institute of Quantity Surveyors – NIQS, RICS).
  • Experience with large-scale infrastructure or commercial building projects.
  • Knowledge of local construction market conditions and regulations in Port Harcourt.
  • Familiarity with FIDIC or other international contract forms.
