Job Description

Flour Mills of Nigeria Plc (FMN) is seeking a dedicated and experienced Quality Control Officer to join our dynamic production team in Rumuokoro, Port Harcourt. This is a pivotal role where you will be instrumental in safeguarding the integrity and excellence of our renowned products, from the initial reception of raw materials through various processing stages to the final dispatch of finished goods.
Operating within a fast-paced and challenging manufacturing environment, the Quality Control Officer will ensure strict adherence to both internal quality specifications and relevant national and international industry regulations. Your expertise will directly contribute to maintaining our reputation for delivering superior quality food products, fostering consumer trust, and driving operational efficiency. Key Responsibilities
- Conduct thorough inspection and sampling of incoming raw materials, in-process products, and finished goods according to established Quality Control (QC) procedures and specifications.
- Perform various laboratory tests and analyses (physical, chemical, microbiological where applicable) using standard equipment to ensure strict compliance with product quality specifications.
- Monitor Critical Control Points (CCPs) and Operational Prerequisite Programs (OPRPs) throughout the production process, immediately addressing any deviations and initiating corrective actions.
- Document and maintain accurate, detailed records of all quality checks, test results, non-conformances, and corrective and preventive actions (CAPAs) taken.
- Prepare comprehensive daily, weekly, and monthly quality reports for management, highlighting trends, identified issues, and providing proactive recommendations for process improvements.
- Assist in the thorough investigation of customer complaints related to product quality, determining root causes, and implementing effective corrective and preventive measures.
- Ensure strict adherence to Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP), Hazard Analysis and Critical Control Points (HACCP) principles, and other relevant food safety and quality management system standards.
- Calibrate and maintain laboratory equipment regularly to ensure accuracy, reliability, and precision of all test results.
- Collaborate effectively and cross-functionally with production, operations, engineering, and maintenance teams to foster a strong culture of quality awareness and compliance across the facility.
Required Skills
- Minimum of a Bachelor's Degree or HND in Food Science and Technology, Industrial Chemistry, Microbiology, Biochemistry, or a related scientific discipline.
- At least 3 years of hands-on experience in Quality Control or Quality Assurance within a reputable manufacturing environment, preferably in the Food & Beverage or FMCG industry.
- Proficiency in performing laboratory analyses and operating standard QC testing equipment.
- Strong understanding of GMP, HACCP, ISO 22000, and other relevant food safety standards.
- Excellent analytical skills and meticulous attention to detail.
- Proficient in data recording, report writing, and Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel).
- Ability to work effectively in a team-oriented, fast-paced production setting.
- Strong problem-solving and decision-making abilities.
Preferred Qualifications
- Master's Degree in a related field.
- Professional certifications in Quality Management (e.g., ASQ Certified Quality Inspector/Engineer, HACCP Coordinator).
- Experience with SAP or other Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) systems for quality data management.
- Demonstrated ability to train and mentor junior QC personnel.
- Knowledge of statistical process control (SPC) techniques.
