As our Proofreader – Grammar & Quality, you will play an indispensable part in upholding The Works’ reputation for excellence and clarity. You will be responsible for meticulously reviewing content across various platforms, identifying and correcting errors in grammar, spelling, punctuation, syntax, and factual accuracy. Beyond just catching mistakes, you will ensure consistency in style, tone, and terminology, adhering strictly to our brand guidelines and editorial standards. Key Responsibilities

  • Meticulously review and proofread a diverse range of content, including product descriptions, marketing collateral (print and digital), website copy, social media posts, email campaigns, and internal communications.
  • Ensure impeccable accuracy in grammar, spelling, punctuation, and syntax across all materials.
  • Verify factual accuracy, consistency of information, and adherence to legal and regulatory guidelines where applicable.
  • Check for clarity, conciseness, coherence, and appropriate tone of voice, ensuring alignment with The Works' brand style guide.
  • Identify and correct errors in formatting, layout, and visual presentation to maintain a professional and consistent appearance.
  • Collaborate effectively with content creators, copywriters, designers, and marketing teams to provide constructive feedback and ensure high-quality output.
  • Manage multiple proofreading projects simultaneously, prioritising tasks to meet strict deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
  • Maintain and update style guides and glossaries to ensure consistency across all brand communications.
  • Stay informed about best practices in proofreading, editing, and language usage.

Required Skills

  • Exceptional command of the English language, with an in-depth understanding of grammar, spelling, punctuation, and syntax.
  • Proven experience in a dedicated proofreading or editorial role, demonstrating a meticulous eye for detail.
  • Strong ability to identify and correct errors while preserving the original meaning and intent.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint) and comfortable with various digital content platforms.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to provide clear and constructive feedback.
  • Highly organised, self-motivated, and capable of working independently as well as part of a collaborative team.
  • Ability to manage time effectively and prioritise workload to meet tight deadlines.

Preferred Qualifications

  • A degree in English, Journalism, Communications, Marketing, or a related field.
  • Familiarity with various style guides (e.g., Chicago Manual of Style, AP Stylebook) or experience developing and adhering to in-house style guides.
  • Experience working within a retail, e-commerce, or publishing environment.
  • Knowledge of SEO principles and how they apply to content creation.
  • Experience with content management systems (CMS).
