Job Description

Datacom is seeking an enthusiastic and highly motivated Entry-Level Product Designer to join our dynamic team in Auckland. As an Entry-Level Product Designer, you will work alongside experienced designers, product managers, and engineers, contributing to the creation of innovative digital products and services. Key Responsibilities

  • Participate in user research activities, including interviews, surveys, and usability testing, to gather insights and understand user needs.
  • Assist in creating user flows, sitemaps, wireframes, prototypes, and high-fidelity mockups for digital products and features.
  • Collaborate closely with senior designers, product managers, and engineering teams throughout the entire product development lifecycle, from concept to launch.
  • Learn and apply established design system guidelines and contribute to their evolution and documentation.
  • Support the preparation and presentation of design concepts and justifications to internal stakeholders and project teams.
  • Actively participate in design critiques and provide constructive feedback to peers.
  • Stay updated with the latest UI/UX design trends, tools, technologies, and best practices to continually enhance skills.
  • Iterate on designs based on feedback from users, user testing results, and analytics data.
  • Advocate for user-centered design principles within the team.

Required Skills

  • Foundational understanding of UI/UX design principles and methodologies (e.g., user-centered design, design thinking).
  • Familiarity with modern design software such as Figma, Sketch, Adobe XD, or similar.
  • A portfolio (even if academic, self-initiated, or personal projects) demonstrating design thinking, problem-solving skills, and visual design aptitude.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills, with an ability to articulate design decisions.
  • Excellent collaboration and teamwork abilities.
  • Eagerness to learn, adapt, and grow in a fast-paced and supportive environment.
  • Basic understanding of accessibility standards in digital design.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Design, Human-Computer Interaction (HCI), Computer Science, or a related field (or equivalent practical experience through bootcamps or self-study).
  • Understanding of agile development methodologies and how design integrates into them.
  • Any experience with front-end development (HTML, CSS, JavaScript) is a plus, but not required.
  • Experience with illustration, motion graphics, or video editing software.
  • Prior participation in design challenges or hackathons.
