Job Description

This pivotal role involves the day-to-day care and management of our poultry flock, ensuring their health, well-being, and optimal productivity. Key Responsibilities
- Perform daily feeding and watering of poultry, ensuring continuous access to fresh food and clean water.
- Monitor the health and behavior of birds daily, identifying any signs of illness, injury, or distress and reporting them promptly to the farm supervisor.
- Collect, clean, and sort eggs according to farm standards, ensuring proper handling and storage.
- Maintain cleanliness and hygiene of poultry houses, coops, and surrounding areas through regular cleaning and disinfection.
- Assist with the vaccination and medication of birds as directed by the supervisor or veterinary staff, ensuring strict adherence to protocols.
- Record daily production data, feed consumption, mortality rates, and other relevant farm metrics accurately and timely.
- Prepare poultry houses for new batches of chicks, including thorough cleaning, disinfection, and setting up all necessary equipment.
- Operate and maintain basic farm equipment safely and efficiently, reporting any malfunctions.
- Adhere strictly to all biosecurity protocols to prevent the introduction and spread of diseases within the farm.
- Assist in the loading and offloading of poultry and feed supplies, ensuring careful handling.
- Support other farm activities as needed to ensure smooth and efficient operations of the entire farm.
Required Skills
- Basic understanding of poultry farming and animal husbandry principles.
- Ability to perform physical tasks, including lifting up to 25kg, bending, and standing for extended periods in varying weather conditions.
- Strong observation skills and attention to detail, especially regarding animal health and environmental conditions.
- Ability to follow instructions accurately and meticulously, both independently and as part of a team.
- Reliable, punctual, and possess a strong work ethic and commitment to animal welfare.
- Basic literacy and numeracy skills for accurate record-keeping and simple calculations.
Preferred Qualifications
- Previous experience working on a poultry farm or in a similar agricultural setting (at least 6 months is highly desirable).
- Knowledge of biosecurity measures and animal welfare standards relevant to poultry farming.
- Formal training or certification in agriculture, animal science, or a related field.
- Ability to identify common poultry diseases and health issues early.
- Residency in Gwagwalada or surrounding areas for ease of commute.
