Job Description

We are seeking a highly motivated and experienced Port Operations Officer – Dock Control to join our dynamic team in Gbadolite, Nord-Ubangi Province. While Gbadolite is an inland location, this role is critical to managing our extensive operational dock activities, functioning akin to a bustling port terminal for logistics and cargo handling. You will be instrumental in ensuring the smooth and efficient flow of cargo and materials within our Gbadolite logistics hub. This involves overseeing the loading, unloading, storage, and movement of diverse goods, including general cargo, project cargo, and potentially hazardous materials, across our facility. The ideal candidate will coordinate with various internal departments, external carriers, and clients to maintain optimal operational efficiency, uphold stringent safety standards, and ensure full compliance with all local and international regulations. This dynamic position demands a keen eye for detail, strong leadership capabilities, and a unwavering commitment to maintaining the highest standards in logistics and supply chain management. Key Responsibilities

  • Oversee and manage daily dock operations, including loading, unloading, staging, and movement of cargo.
  • Implement and enforce strict safety protocols and company policies to ensure a safe working environment for all personnel and assets.
  • Coordinate with warehousing, transport, and customer service teams to optimize cargo flow and meet delivery schedules.
  • Monitor equipment functionality and ensure proper utilization, maintenance, and allocation of operational resources.
  • Conduct regular inspections of cargo, equipment, and facilities to identify and report potential hazards or issues.
  • Maintain accurate records of all cargo movements, inventory levels, and operational activities using relevant systems.
  • Lead and supervise a team of dockworkers, providing guidance, training, and performance feedback.
  • Resolve operational discrepancies, delays, and customer complaints efficiently and effectively.
  • Prepare comprehensive operational reports and analyze data to identify areas for process improvement.

Required Skills

  • Minimum of 3 years of experience in logistics, warehousing, or port/terminal operations.
  • Proven experience in dock control and cargo handling procedures.
  • Strong understanding of health, safety, and environmental (HSE) regulations.
  • Excellent organizational and time management skills.
  • Proficiency in logistics management software and Microsoft Office Suite.
  • Demonstrated leadership and team supervision abilities.
  • Fluent in English and French (written and spoken).

Preferred Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Logistics, Supply Chain Management, Business Administration, or a related field.
  • Certification in Lean Six Sigma or other process improvement methodologies.
  • Experience working with international logistics standards and regulations.
  • Knowledge of local DR Congo logistics landscape and regulations.
