Key Responsibilities
- Safely and efficiently transport containerized freight to and from the Ports of Long Beach/Los Angeles, customer sites, and rail yards.
- Operate Class A commercial motor vehicles in compliance with all DOT regulations, company policies, and port security protocols.
- Conduct thorough pre-trip and post-trip inspections of vehicles and equipment, documenting any deficiencies.
- Accurately complete all necessary paperwork, including logs, manifests, and delivery receipts, utilizing electronic logging devices (ELDs).
- Maintain clear and consistent communication with dispatch, port personnel, and customers regarding load status and any potential issues.
- Adhere to strict delivery schedules and adapt to dynamic operational demands and traffic conditions.
- Ensure the security of cargo at all times during transit, including proper sealing and load securement.
- Represent California Cartage Company with professionalism and a commitment to excellent customer service.
- Adhere to all safety protocols and company policies, participating in safety meetings and training as required.
Required Skills
- Valid Class A Commercial Driver's License (CDL).
- Current and valid Transportation Worker Identification Credential (TWIC) card.
- Minimum of 2 years (24 months) verifiable Class A driving experience.
- Clean driving record (MVR) with no serious violations.
- Proficiency in operating Electronic Logging Devices (ELDs) and other in-cab technologies.
- Strong understanding of federal, state, and local transportation regulations (DOT, FMCSA).
- Ability to perform physical tasks associated with truck driving (e.g., coupling/uncoupling trailers, climbing in/out of cab, inspecting equipment).
- Excellent communication and organizational skills, with attention to detail.
Preferred Qualifications
- Prior experience in port drayage or intermodal transportation.
- Familiarity with the Ports of Long Beach and Los Angeles terminal gate systems and procedures.
- Knowledge of HazMat regulations (endorsement not strictly required but a plus).
- Experience with various chassis types (e.g., 2-axle, 3-axle, slider chassis).
- High school diploma or GED equivalent.
