Job Description
Kingston Freeport Terminal Limited (KFTL) is seeking a highly skilled and dedicated Plumber – Pipework, Maintenance Specialist to join our facilities management team. In this vital role, you will be responsible for the installation, repair, and maintenance of all plumbing systems across our extensive terminal facilities in Trench Town, Kingston. This includes everything from potable water lines and wastewater systems to industrial pipework and specialized equipment. Your expertise will ensure the uninterrupted operation of our administrative offices, workshops, sanitary facilities, and other critical infrastructure, directly impacting the health, safety, and efficiency of our employees and operations.
We are looking for an individual with a strong commitment to quality workmanship, an excellent understanding of plumbing codes and regulations, and a proactive approach to problem-solving. The ideal candidate will be adept at diagnosing complex plumbing issues, executing timely repairs, and performing preventative maintenance to avoid future disruptions. You will work independently and as part of a team, often responding to urgent calls, and will be expected to maintain accurate records of all work performed. Key Responsibilities
- Install, repair, and maintain pipes, fixtures, and other plumbing systems, including water supply lines, drainage systems, and sanitary facilities.
- Diagnose and troubleshoot plumbing problems, identify necessary repairs, and implement effective solutions.
- Perform routine preventative maintenance on all plumbing systems and equipment to ensure optimal functionality and extend asset lifespan.
- Inspect plumbing systems to identify and resolve potential issues before they escalate.
- Adhere strictly to all national and local plumbing codes, safety regulations, and KFTL's operational procedures.
- Operate and maintain various plumbing tools and equipment, ensuring their proper use and care.
- Respond promptly to emergency plumbing calls, including leaks, blockages, and system failures, to minimize disruption.
- Collaborate with other maintenance and facilities staff to coordinate projects and ensure seamless operations.
- Maintain accurate records of all maintenance, repair, and installation work performed, including materials used.
- Provide recommendations for upgrades or improvements to existing plumbing infrastructure.
Required Skills
- Proven experience as a Plumber, with a strong focus on pipework installation and maintenance.
- Thorough knowledge of plumbing systems, including water supply, drainage, and waste disposal.
- Proficiency in reading and interpreting blueprints, schematics, and technical manuals.
- Excellent diagnostic and problem-solving abilities.
- Familiarity with various plumbing tools, equipment, and materials.
- Strong understanding of health and safety regulations relevant to plumbing work.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team in a fast-paced environment.
- Good physical condition and strength, with the ability to lift heavy objects and work in confined spaces.
- Valid Jamaican driver's license.
Preferred Qualifications
- Vocational diploma or certification in Plumbing from a recognized institution.
- Experience working in a large-scale industrial or commercial environment.
- Knowledge of specialized plumbing systems (e.g., fire suppression, industrial processing).
- Certification in confined space entry or working at heights.
- Basic computer literacy for record-keeping and communication.
