Job Description

We are seeking a highly motivated and skilled Plant Operator to join our dynamic and growing team at our facility located in Maryland, Ikeja, Lagos. As a Plant Operator at Dangote Group, you will be a crucial part of our manufacturing operations, responsible for the safe and efficient running of various plant machinery and systems. Key Responsibilities

  • Operate and monitor industrial plant machinery and equipment using control systems, ensuring optimal performance and efficiency.
  • Perform routine inspections, pre-shift checks, and preventative maintenance on equipment, identifying and promptly reporting any malfunctions or potential issues to relevant teams.
  • Adjust controls, valves, and settings accurately to maintain specified operating conditions, product quality parameters, and production schedules.
  • Monitor gauges, dials, computer interfaces, and other indicators to ensure the plant operates consistently within safety and operational parameters.
  • Strictly follow all safety procedures and guidelines, including Lockout/Tagout (LOTO), confined space entry, and personal protective equipment (PPE) protocols, to ensure a safe working environment.
  • Accurately record operational data, production metrics, equipment readings, and maintenance activities in logs and digital systems.
  • Troubleshoot minor operational problems and assist maintenance personnel with more complex repairs or scheduled maintenance tasks as needed.
  • Ensure strict adherence to quality control standards, environmental regulations, and company policies.
  • Collaborate effectively with shift supervisors, engineers, and other team members to coordinate production activities and resolve operational challenges swiftly.
  • Participate actively in training programs to enhance operational skills, safety knowledge, and understanding of new technologies or processes.
  • Maintain cleanliness, orderliness, and proper housekeeping of the plant operation area at all times.

Required Skills

  • Strong foundational understanding of industrial plant operations, process flow, and mechanical principles.
  • Proven proficiency in operating and monitoring heavy machinery and industrial equipment.
  • Exceptional observational skills, attention to detail, and ability to detect anomalies.
  • Ability to read and accurately interpret technical manuals, process flow diagrams, schematics, and safety guidelines.
  • Basic mechanical aptitude for troubleshooting and performing minor adjustments or repairs.
  • Unwavering commitment to industrial safety procedures and best practices.
  • Ability to work effectively and collaboratively in a fast-paced, team-oriented industrial environment.
  • Good verbal and written communication skills for reporting and inter-team collaboration.
  • Physical stamina and ability to work in varying environmental conditions, including elevated temperatures or noise levels, and potentially shift work.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Ordinary National Diploma (OND) or Higher National Diploma (HND) in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Chemical Engineering, Process Engineering, or a related technical field.
  • Minimum of 2-3 years of proven experience operating machinery in a cement, food processing, heavy manufacturing, or similar industrial environment.
  • Knowledge of Quality Management Systems (QMS) and Environmental Management Systems (EMS) principles.
  • Familiarity with Computerized Maintenance Management Systems (CMMS) software.
  • Possession of relevant trade test certificates or vocational qualifications.
  • First Aid and Basic Fire Fighting certification.
