Job Description
We are seeking highly skilled and experienced Pipeline Welders to join our dedicated construction and energy teams in Port Harcourt. Key Responsibilities
- Perform various types of welding, including but not limited to SMAW (Stick), GTAW (TIG), and FCAW (Flux-Cored Arc Welding), on pipeline components in accordance with project specifications and industry standards.
- Interpret blueprints, welding procedure specifications (WPS), and engineering drawings to determine appropriate welding techniques and ensure accurate execution.
- Inspect finished welds for defects, ensuring compliance with NDT (Non-Destructive Testing) requirements and quality control procedures.
- Operate and maintain welding equipment, tools, and machinery in a safe and efficient manner, conducting routine checks and reporting any malfunctions.
- Adhere strictly to all company safety policies, procedures, and relevant regulatory requirements, participating in safety briefings and promoting a safe work environment.
- Collaborate effectively with pipefitters, foremen, and other team members to ensure seamless project execution and timely completion.
- Prepare workpieces for welding by grinding, cleaning, and positioning components, ensuring proper alignment and fit-up.
- Document work performed, including weld maps, daily progress reports, and material usage, as required.
Required Skills
- Minimum of 3 years of demonstrated experience as a Pipeline Welder in the oil and gas, energy, or heavy construction industry.
- Proficiency in multiple welding processes (SMAW, GTAW, FCAW) with a strong emphasis on pipe welding (2G, 5G, 6G positions).
- Ability to read and accurately interpret blueprints, P&IDs (Piping and Instrumentation Diagrams), and welding symbols.
- Thorough knowledge of pipeline materials, joint preparations, and welding consumables.
- Strong understanding and adherence to safety protocols, including LOTO (Lockout/Tagout), confined space entry, and hot work permits.
- Excellent hand-eye coordination, precision, and attention to detail.
- Physical fitness and ability to work in demanding outdoor environments, often involving heavy lifting and extended periods of standing or bending.
Preferred Qualifications
- Valid professional welding certifications (e.g., AWS D1.1, API 1104, CSWIP) relevant to pipeline construction.
- Experience with automatic or semi-automatic welding systems.
- Familiarity with various pipe coating and wrapping techniques.
- Certification in basic first aid and CPR.
- Possession of a valid driver’s license.
