Job Description
Radio Okapi is seeking a talented and passionate Photographer – Event & Studio to join our dynamic team in Gemena, Sud-Ubangi Province. This role is critical for visually documenting our impactful work, community engagements, and significant events that shape the narrative of peace and development in the region. As our Photographer, you will be responsible for capturing high-quality images that tell compelling stories, both in the field during live events and within our studio setting. You will work closely with our editorial and communication teams, providing visual content for news reports, social media, publications, and archival purposes. The ideal candidate possesses a keen eye for detail, a strong understanding of visual storytelling, and proficiency in both event and studio photography techniques. You must be adaptable, able to work independently in diverse environments, and passionate about contributing to a mission-driven organization. Key Responsibilities
- Capture high-quality, compelling photographs of events, workshops, community interactions, and daily activities for Radio Okapi's various platforms.
- Conduct studio photography sessions for portraits, interviews, and specific visual content as required.
- Work collaboratively with journalists, reporters, and communications officers to understand visual needs and deliver appropriate photographic assets.
- Edit and retouch images to meet high professional standards, ensuring consistency with Radio Okapi's branding guidelines.
- Organize and maintain a comprehensive digital photo archive, including proper metadata tagging and categorization.
- Manage and maintain photography equipment, ensuring its proper functioning and recommending necessary upgrades or replacements.
- Travel to various locations within Gemena and potentially other parts of Sud-Ubangi Province for assignments.
- Adhere to ethical guidelines for photography, especially when working with vulnerable populations or sensitive subjects.
- Stay updated with industry trends, photographic techniques, and equipment advancements.
Required Skills
- Proven expertise in both event and studio photography, including lighting, composition, and post-production.
- Proficiency with professional-grade DSLR/mirrorless cameras and associated equipment (lenses, flashes, tripods, etc.).
- Strong command of photo editing software (e.g., Adobe Photoshop, Lightroom).
- Excellent visual storytelling abilities and an eye for compelling imagery.
- Ability to work effectively under pressure, manage multiple assignments, and meet deadlines.
- Strong organizational skills for asset management and archiving.
- Fluency in French (oral and written) is essential; Lingala and/or Swahili is a strong asset.
- Understanding of journalistic ethics and sensitivity when working in diverse cultural contexts.
- Valid driver's license and ability to travel within the province.
Preferred Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree or Diploma in Photography, Visual Arts, Journalism, or a related field.
- Previous experience working with media organizations, NGOs, or international bodies.
- Portfolio demonstrating a diverse range of photography work, particularly in event and portraiture.
- Experience with video capture and editing is a plus.
- Familiarity with the socio-cultural context of the Democratic Republic of Congo, particularly the Sud-Ubangi Province.
