Job Description

FirstPort is seeking a dedicated and proactive Part-Time Apartment Maintenance Operative to join our team in Southampton. This pivotal role involves ensuring the smooth and efficient operation of our managed residential properties, focusing on general repairs, preventative maintenance, and ensuring a safe and pleasant living environment for residents. You will be an integral part of our local operations, responding to maintenance requests, conducting routine checks, and supporting larger projects as needed. Key Responsibilities

  • Perform general maintenance and repairs within apartment buildings and communal areas, including basic plumbing, electrical, carpentry, and painting.
  • Conduct routine inspections of properties to identify and address potential maintenance issues proactively.
  • Respond promptly and efficiently to maintenance requests from residents and property managers.
  • Assist with the setup and maintenance of communal facilities, ensuring they are clean, safe, and fully functional.
  • Monitor and report on the condition of building systems and infrastructure, escalating complex issues to specialist contractors when necessary.
  • Maintain accurate records of all maintenance work performed, including time spent, materials used, and any follow-up actions required.
  • Ensure compliance with health and safety regulations, company policies, and best practices at all times.
  • Liaise effectively with residents, contractors, and other FirstPort team members with a professional and helpful demeanor.
  • Support emergency maintenance call-outs if required (on an agreed rotational basis).

Required Skills

  • Proven experience in general maintenance, building repairs, or a similar hands-on role.
  • Proficiency in basic plumbing, electrical, carpentry, and painting tasks.
  • Strong problem-solving abilities and practical skills.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with a resident-focused approach.
  • Ability to work independently and manage time effectively.
  • A full UK driving license and access to reliable transportation.
  • Basic IT literacy for record-keeping and communication.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Relevant trade qualifications or certifications (e.g., City & Guilds in a relevant trade).
  • Experience working in a residential or property management environment.
  • Knowledge of health and safety regulations pertinent to building maintenance.
