Job Description

Yorkshire Ambulance Service NHS Trust is seeking dedicated and resilient individuals to join our Emergency Medical Response teams. As a Paramedic with YAS, you will be dispatched to a wide array of emergency calls, often working autonomously or as part of a multi-disciplinary team, assessing, treating, and transporting patients with acute medical conditions and traumatic injuries. Key Responsibilities
- Respond promptly and safely to emergency calls, assessing scenes for safety and potential hazards.
- Perform comprehensive patient assessments, including physical examinations, history taking, and interpretation of vital signs and diagnostic data (e.g., ECGs).
- Formulate and implement pre-hospital treatment plans, administering medications, performing advanced airway management, defibrillation, trauma care, and other life-saving interventions in accordance with JRCALC guidelines and YAS protocols.
- Safely extricate, stabilise, and transport patients to appropriate medical facilities, providing ongoing monitoring and care en route.
- Document all patient interactions, assessments, treatments, and observations accurately and contemporaneously, ensuring adherence to clinical governance standards.
- Effectively communicate with patients, their families, other healthcare professionals, and emergency services personnel, providing clear and concise information.
- Maintain all assigned equipment, vehicles, and medical supplies in a state of readiness, reporting any defects or issues promptly.
- Act as a professional role model, mentoring students and less experienced colleagues, and contributing to a positive team environment.
- Participate in continuous professional development, training, and clinical audits to enhance skills and maintain clinical competence and HCPC registration.
- Adhere to all NHS and YAS policies, procedures, and ethical guidelines, upholding patient confidentiality and dignity.
Required Skills
- HCPC Registered Paramedic (or eligible for registration)
- Full UK driving licence with C1 entitlement (or equivalent)
- Significant experience as a qualified Paramedic in an emergency response setting
- Demonstrable knowledge of JRCALC guidelines and current pre-hospital emergency care practices
- Excellent clinical assessment and decision-making skills under pressure
- Proficiency in advanced life support techniques and emergency interventions
- Exceptional communication, interpersonal, and empathy skills
- Ability to work effectively both independently and as part of a multi-disciplinary team
- Strong problem-solving and critical thinking abilities
- Commitment to patient-centred care and continuous professional development
Preferred Qualifications
- Advanced Life Support (ALS) or equivalent certification
- Paediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) or equivalent certification
- Pre-Hospital Trauma Life Support (PHTLS) or equivalent certification
- Experience with specialist rescue or hazardous environment operations
- Mentorship qualification or experience in training junior staff
