Job Description
Vision Centre (Jamaica) is seeking a highly skilled and compassionate Optometrist to join our thriving team in Montego Bay. This pivotal role involves providing comprehensive eye care services, encompassing routine eye examinations, accurate diagnosis and management of ocular diseases, prescribing and fitting of corrective lenses, and patient education on maintaining optimal eye health. The ideal candidate will possess a strong clinical acumen, exceptional interpersonal skills, and a genuine commitment to patient well-being. You will be responsible for conducting thorough visual assessments, interpreting diagnostic tests, and developing personalized treatment plans. We are looking for an individual who is not only proficient in the technical aspects of optometry, including precise lens fitting for glasses and contact lenses, but also excels at building rapport with patients of all ages. Key Responsibilities
- Conduct comprehensive eye examinations, including refractions, visual field tests, and anterior/posterior segment evaluations.
- Diagnose, treat, and manage ocular diseases, injuries, and disorders.
- Prescribe and fit eyeglasses, contact lenses, and other vision correction devices.
- Provide pre- and post-operative care for cataract and refractive surgery patients.
- Educate patients on proper eye care, contact lens hygiene, and treatment options.
- Maintain accurate and detailed patient records in compliance with professional and regulatory standards.
- Collaborate with ophthalmologists and other healthcare professionals for co-management of complex cases.
- Stay current with advancements in optometry, eye health technology, and lens materials.
- Supervise and mentor optometric assistants and support staff.
- Participate in community outreach and vision screening programs as required.
Required Skills
- Doctor of Optometry (OD) degree from an accredited institution.
- Valid Optometry license to practice in Jamaica.
- Minimum of 3 years of clinical experience as a practicing Optometrist.
- Proficiency in diagnostic instrumentation and electronic health records (EHR) systems.
- Excellent diagnostic and problem-solving abilities.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with a patient-first approach.
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively within a team environment.
- Meticulous attention to detail and strong organizational skills.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience with specialty contact lens fitting (e.g., scleral, toric).
- Familiarity with vision therapy techniques and low vision aids.
- Bilingual proficiency (e.g., English and Spanish) to serve a diverse patient base.
