Job Description

Kingston Wharves Limited is seeking a highly motivated and detail-oriented Operations Officer to join our dynamic team in Port Royal, Kingston. This crucial role is at the heart of our logistics operations, ensuring the seamless execution of daily tasks that support the efficient flow of goods through our terminal and broader supply chain networks. The Operations Officer will be instrumental in coordinating various operational activities, from cargo handling and warehousing to transportation and documentation, ensuring compliance with all regulatory requirements and company policies. You will serve as a key point of contact for internal departments, including customer service, finance, and security, as well as external partners such as shipping lines, customs officials, and freight forwarders, resolving operational issues promptly and effectively to maintain our high standards of service and operational fluidity.

Key Responsibilities

  • Coordinate and supervise daily logistics operations, including cargo receipt, storage, and dispatch.
  • Monitor and track cargo movements, ensuring timely and accurate delivery schedules.
  • Allocate and manage operational resources, including equipment, facilities, and personnel, efficiently.
  • Prepare and maintain detailed operational reports, logs, and comprehensive documentation for all activities.
  • Liaise with internal departments, shipping lines, customs officials, and other external stakeholders to resolve operational issues and ensure smooth workflow.
  • Ensure strict adherence to safety protocols, company policies, and all local and international shipping regulations.
  • Identify and implement process improvements to enhance operational efficiency, reduce costs, and optimize service delivery.
  • Conduct regular inventory checks, reconciliation of cargo, and maintain accurate inventory records.
  • Respond to and manage operational incidents or emergencies effectively, minimizing disruption and ensuring swift resolution.
  • Assist in the training and development of junior operations staff, fostering a culture of continuous learning and improvement.

Required Skills

  • Bachelor's Degree in Logistics, Supply Chain Management, Business Administration, or a closely related field.
  • Minimum of 2 years of progressive experience in logistics, port operations, or a similar operational role.
  • Strong understanding of supply chain principles, warehousing, and port terminal operations.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, Word, Outlook) for reporting and analysis.
  • Excellent problem-solving, analytical, and decision-making abilities.
  • Superior communication, negotiation, and interpersonal skills, both written and verbal.
  • Ability to work effectively under pressure, prioritize tasks, and manage multiple projects concurrently.
  • Demonstrated analytical skills with an ability to interpret complex data and generate actionable insights.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Certification in Logistics or Supply Chain Management (e.g., CSCP, CLTD).
  • Experience with port management systems (PMS) or Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) software.
  • In-depth knowledge of international shipping regulations, customs procedures, and trade compliance.
  • Familiarity with lean management principles or Six Sigma methodologies for process optimization.
  • Fluency in a second language, particularly Spanish, is an asset for regional communication.
