Job Description
We are seeking a highly skilled and dedicated On-site Technician specializing in Equipment Repair to join our esteemed facilities team at Palomar Health in Escondido, California. In this critical role, you will be instrumental in ensuring the continuous operation and reliability of a diverse range of essential equipment across our healthcare facilities. Key Responsibilities
- Perform skilled diagnostic and repair work on a variety of mechanical, electrical, and electro-mechanical equipment, including but not limited to medical devices, HVAC components, kitchen equipment, and general facility machinery.
- Execute scheduled preventative maintenance programs to extend equipment lifespan and ensure optimal performance, reducing the likelihood of unexpected breakdowns.
- Respond promptly to emergency repair calls and service requests, prioritizing critical issues to minimize operational disruptions and patient impact.
- Accurately document all repair work, maintenance activities, parts used, and equipment status in the designated computerized maintenance management system (CMMS).
- Calibrate and test equipment to ensure compliance with performance standards, manufacturer specifications, and regulatory requirements (e.g., Joint Commission, Title 22).
- Collaborate effectively with department managers, clinical staff, and other technicians to coordinate repairs, provide technical support, and offer training on basic equipment operation and care.
- Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work environment, adhering to all hospital safety policies, infection control protocols, and hazardous waste procedures.
- Identify opportunities for equipment upgrades or replacements, providing recommendations to improve efficiency, safety, and cost-effectiveness.
- Stay current with new technologies, repair techniques, and industry best practices through continuous learning and professional development.
Required Skills
- Minimum 2-3 years of proven experience in equipment repair or maintenance in a commercial, industrial, or healthcare setting.
- Strong mechanical and electrical aptitude with the ability to read and interpret schematics, blueprints, and technical manuals.
- Proficiency in diagnosing and troubleshooting complex equipment malfunctions using various testing tools and techniques.
- Solid understanding of safety protocols, including Lockout/Tagout procedures, and experience working with various power tools and hand tools.
- Excellent problem-solving skills and the ability to work independently or as part of a team.
- Effective written and verbal communication skills for documenting work and interacting with staff at all levels.
- Physical ability to lift up to 50 pounds, stand, walk, bend, and stoop for extended periods, and work in various environmental conditions.
- Valid California driver's license and a clean driving record.
Preferred Qualifications
- Associate's degree or technical certification in Biomedical Equipment Technology, Electronics, HVAC, or a related field.
- Prior experience working with medical equipment within a hospital or clinical environment.
- Certifications from manufacturers or industry organizations (e.g., AAMI CBET, EPA Universal Refrigerant Certification).
- Familiarity with Computerized Maintenance Management Systems (CMMS).
- Experience with building automation systems (BAS) or control systems.
