Mercy Hospital Fort Smith is seeking a dedicated On-site Security Guard for immediate hire to join our esteemed team. In this vital position, you will be the frontline presence ensuring the safety and security of our patients, visitors, and co-workers, as well as protecting hospital property and assets. As an On-site Security Guard, you will be responsible for maintaining a safe and secure environment across our campus. Your duties will include monitoring surveillance systems, conducting regular patrols of hospital premises (both interior and exterior), responding to alarms and emergency situations, and enforcing hospital policies and procedures. You will be expected to de-escalate potential conflicts, provide clear and concise reports, and collaborate effectively with hospital staff, local law enforcement, and emergency services. Empathy, professionalism, and a calm demeanor are paramount, especially when interacting with individuals who may be experiencing distress or heightened emotions. You will be a visible deterrent to unauthorized activities and a reassuring presence for all who enter our facility. This role requires a keen eye for detail, excellent observational skills, and the ability to react swiftly and appropriately in various situations, from routine checks to critical incidents. Key Responsibilities
- Conduct regular patrols of hospital premises, both internal and external, to prevent and detect signs of intrusion and ensure security of doors, windows, and gates.
- Monitor surveillance cameras and alarm systems, responding promptly to any suspicious activity or emergencies.
- Enforce hospital policies and procedures to ensure a safe and orderly environment for patients, visitors, and staff.
- Respond to calls for service, emergency codes, and security incidents, taking appropriate action to resolve situations effectively and safely.
- De-escalate potentially volatile situations with professionalism and empathy, utilizing verbal de-escalation techniques.
- Complete detailed and accurate incident reports, documenting observations, activities, and interactions.
- Provide escort services for staff, visitors, or patients as needed.
- Assist in emergency preparedness and response activities, including fire drills, evacuations, and disaster response.
- Collaborate with local law enforcement and emergency services when required.
- Provide exceptional customer service and assistance to patients, visitors, and staff, offering directions and information.
Required Skills
- High School Diploma or GED
- Minimum of 1 year of experience in security, law enforcement, or a related field
- Excellent observational and analytical skills
- Strong verbal and written communication abilities
- Ability to operate surveillance equipment and basic security technology
- Physical ability to stand, walk, and patrol for extended periods, and respond to emergencies
- Valid driver's license and clean driving record
- Ability to work effectively under pressure and in high-stress situations
Preferred Qualifications
- Associate's degree in Criminal Justice or a related field
- Certification in CPR and First Aid
- Prior experience in healthcare security
- Knowledge of HIPAA regulations and patient confidentiality
- Training in de-escalation and non-violent crisis intervention (CPI, MOAB, etc.)
