Key Responsibilities

  • Assist patients with activities of daily living (ADLs) including bathing, dressing, grooming, and feeding, always prioritizing patient dignity and comfort.
  • Monitor and accurately record vital signs, intake and output, blood glucose levels, and other pertinent patient data, promptly reporting any changes or concerns to the nursing staff.
  • Help patients with safe mobility, transfers, and ambulation, utilizing appropriate assistive devices and techniques.
  • Document observations and patient interactions in the electronic health record (EHR) in a timely and accurate manner.
  • Assist nurses with various medical procedures and treatments as delegated and within the scope of practice for a Nursing Assistant.
  • Maintain a clean, organized, and safe patient environment, ensuring adherence to infection control protocols.
  • Provide emotional support and companionship to patients and their families, fostering a positive and therapeutic atmosphere.
  • Adhere strictly to Kootenai Health's policies, procedures, and patient care standards, including HIPAA regulations.
  • Collaborate effectively and professionally with interdisciplinary healthcare team members to ensure coordinated and comprehensive patient care.
  • Participate actively in ongoing training, educational programs, and professional development activities to enhance skills and knowledge.

Required Skills

  • Current Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) certification in Idaho (or eligible for reciprocity) upon hire.
  • High School Diploma or GED equivalent.
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) certification from the American Heart Association (AHA) required.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication and interpersonal skills to interact effectively with patients, families, and team members.
  • Ability to work efficiently and calmly in a dynamic, fast-paced healthcare environment, adapting to changing patient needs.
  • Strong observational skills with attention to detail and accurate documentation abilities.
  • Demonstrated compassionate, empathetic, and patient-centered approach to care delivery.
  • Physical stamina to perform job duties, including lifting, bending, standing for extended periods, and assisting with patient mobility.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Prior experience in an acute care setting, long-term care facility, or skilled nursing facility (6+ months is highly preferred).
  • Familiarity and proficiency with electronic health record (EHR) systems.
  • Multilingual abilities (e.g., Spanish) are a plus, enhancing communication with our diverse patient population.
