Key Responsibilities
- Assist patients with daily living activities, including bathing, dressing, grooming, and feeding.
- Monitor and record vital signs (temperature, pulse, respiration, blood pressure) accurately.
- Help patients with mobility, transfers, and ambulation, utilizing proper body mechanics and assistive devices.
- Maintain a clean, safe, and organized patient environment.
- Document patient care activities, observations, and changes in condition in the electronic health record.
- Assist nurses with medical procedures, treatments, and examinations as directed.
- Provide emotional support and companionship to patients, fostering a sense of comfort and dignity.
- Communicate effectively with patients, families, and the healthcare team regarding patient needs and concerns.
- Respond to patient calls promptly and courteously.
- Adhere strictly to all hospital policies, procedures, and safety regulations, including infection control protocols.
Required Skills
- High School Diploma or equivalent.
- Completion of a recognized Nursing Assistant, Patient Care Assistant, or Caregiver training program.
- Current certification/registration as a Nursing Assistant or Caregiver in Jamaica (if applicable).
- Minimum of 1 year of experience in a healthcare setting (hospital, clinic, or long-term care facility).
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
- Ability to follow written and verbal instructions precisely.
- Demonstrated empathy, patience, and a compassionate approach to patient care.
- Basic computer proficiency for documentation.
- Physical ability to lift, push, pull, and assist patients as needed.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience in an acute care hospital environment.
- Basic Life Support (BLS) certification.
- Knowledge of medical terminology.
- Bilingualism (English and Spanish) is a plus.
- Ability to work effectively as part of a multidisciplinary team.
