Job Description
Médecins Sans Frontières (MSF) is seeking a highly dedicated, adaptable, and resilient Nurse to join our vital medical teams in Isiro, Haut-Uélé Province, Democratic Republic of Congo. This challenging yet incredibly rewarding role involves providing comprehensive hospital-based and field medical care to vulnerable populations who often lack access to basic health services. As a Nurse with MSF, you will be at the forefront of our humanitarian efforts, working within established MSF health structures and extending care to remote communities affected by crisis, disease outbreaks, and persistent health inequities. Your responsibilities will span a wide array of critical nursing duties, from emergency response and critical care to routine patient management, vaccination campaigns, and essential health promotion activities. You will play a crucial role in ensuring the consistent delivery of high-quality medical services, maintaining strict infection prevention and control protocols, and supporting local health staff through mentorship, training, and capacity building. Key Responsibilities
- Provide comprehensive nursing care in hospital settings, including emergency rooms, inpatient wards, and outpatient clinics.
- Participate in field missions and mobile clinics to deliver healthcare services to remote and underserved communities.
- Administer medications, vaccinations, and treatments as prescribed, ensuring accurate documentation.
- Monitor patient vital signs, assess conditions, and provide ongoing patient education and support.
- Assist in emergency medical response, including trauma care, mass casualty incidents, and epidemic control.
- Ensure strict adherence to hygiene, infection prevention and control protocols within all medical facilities and during field activities.
- Collect and analyze medical data, contributing to surveillance and reporting of health indicators.
- Collaborate effectively with local health staff, providing training, supervision, and mentorship.
- Manage medical supplies and equipment, ensuring availability and proper utilization.
- Promote community health awareness and preventive health practices.
- Participate in team meetings, debriefings, and contribute to overall project planning and evaluation.
- Maintain patient confidentiality and adhere to MSF's ethical guidelines and humanitarian principles.
Required Skills
- Registered Nurse (RN) qualification/license recognized in your country of origin.
- Minimum of 3 years of post-qualification clinical experience, preferably in a hospital setting.
- Demonstrated experience in emergency care, trauma management, general medicine, pediatrics, or maternal health.
- Strong clinical assessment, critical thinking, and problem-solving skills.
- Excellent interpersonal, communication, and teamwork abilities.
- High level of cultural sensitivity and adaptability to diverse working environments.
- Ability to work independently and under pressure in challenging and sometimes insecure contexts.
- Fluency in French (written and spoken) is essential for effective communication in DRC.
- Commitment to humanitarian principles and the mission of MSF.
Preferred Qualifications
- Previous experience working in humanitarian settings, developing countries, or resource-limited environments.
- Experience with tropical diseases, public health programs, or community health initiatives.
- Proficiency in local languages such as Swahili or Lingala.
- Advanced certifications in areas like Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS), Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS), or trauma care.
- Experience in training and capacity building for local health personnel.
- Demonstrated ability to manage complex medical cases with limited resources.
