Job Description
We are actively seeking a highly motivated, experienced, and dedicated Safety Officer to join our dynamic team in Alimosho, Lagos. As a Safety Officer at NNPC, you will be instrumental in ensuring the highest standards of health, safety, and environmental (HSE) compliance across our diverse operations. Your primary responsibility will involve the meticulous implementation, diligent monitoring, and rigorous enforcement of NNPC’s comprehensive safety policies and procedures. Key Responsibilities
- Develop, implement, and monitor NNPC's Health, Safety, and Environmental (HSE) policies and procedures in strict alignment with national and international standards.
- Conduct regular, thorough site inspections and audits to proactively identify potential hazards and ensure absolute compliance with all safety regulations.
- Lead and facilitate engaging and comprehensive safety training programs for employees, contractors, and visitors.
- Investigate all incidents, accidents, and near-misses with diligence, preparing detailed reports and recommending effective corrective actions.
- Maintain comprehensive and accurate records of safety inspections, incidents, training sessions, and equipment certifications.
- Coordinate effectively with regulatory bodies and ensure all required safety permits and licenses are up-to-date and compliant.
- Develop and implement robust emergency response plans and conduct regular, realistic drills to ensure preparedness.
- Promote a strong, positive safety culture through regular communication, impactful awareness campaigns, and proactive employee engagement initiatives.
- Advise management on best practices for risk mitigation and continuous improvement in overall HSE performance.
- Ensure the proper use, inspection, and maintenance of all personal protective equipment (PPE).
Required Skills
- Proven experience of at least 3-5 years as a Safety Officer or in a similar HSE role.
- In-depth knowledge of Nigerian and international HSE regulations and standards (e.g., OSHA, ISO 45001).
- Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills with a strong attention to detail.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to influence, motivate, and train others effectively.
- Proficiency in conducting thorough risk assessments and developing robust mitigation strategies.
- Ability to work independently with minimal supervision and collaboratively as part of a multidisciplinary team.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint) for reporting and presentations.
- Strong report writing and meticulous documentation skills.
Preferred Qualifications
- NEBOSH International General Certificate (IGC) or equivalent recognized HSE certification.
- Membership in relevant professional safety organizations (e.g., Institute of Safety Professionals of Nigeria – ISPON).
- Direct experience in the oil and gas industry.
- Valid First Aid and CPR certification.
- Knowledge of environmental management systems (e.g., ISO 14001).
