Key Responsibilities
- Assist dentists during a variety of dental procedures, including examinations, restorations, extractions, and more.
- Prepare and sterilize dental instruments and equipment in accordance with strict infection control guidelines.
- Ensure the dental surgery is fully stocked, clean, and prepared for each patient, maintaining a sterile and organized environment.
- Maintain accurate patient records, manage appointments, and handle administrative tasks as needed, utilizing digital practice management software.
- Provide clear pre- and post-operative instructions and advice to patients, ensuring their understanding and comfort.
- Offer emotional support and reassurance to anxious patients, creating a calm and welcoming atmosphere.
- Process and develop dental radiographs (X-rays) as required, adhering to safety protocols.
- Manage dental materials, including ordering, stock control, and safe storage, to ensure consistent availability.
- Adhere to all health and safety regulations and practice policies, upholding the highest standards of care.
- Collaborate effectively with the dental team (dentists, hygienists, receptionists) to ensure efficient patient flow and exceptional service.
Required Skills
- Valid Dental Nurse qualification or equivalent (e.g., Dental Assistant certification with radiography license in Indiana).
- Current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification.
- Proven experience working as a Dental Nurse or Assistant in a clinical setting (minimum 1 year).
- Excellent understanding of dental terminology, procedures, and instruments.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with a patient-first approach.
- Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced environment and manage multiple tasks efficiently.
- Commitment to maintaining patient confidentiality and professional ethics.
- Proficiency in dental software systems (e.g., Dentrix, Eaglesoft) for charting and scheduling.
Preferred Qualifications
- Radiography certification (if not already part of primary qualification).
- Experience with digital dentistry technologies, such as intraoral scanners or CAD/CAM systems.
- Knowledge of minor oral surgery procedures and assisting in complex treatments.
- Additional certifications in dental specialties (e.g., orthodontics, periodontics).
- A compassionate and empathetic approach to patient care, with a focus on patient education.
- Fluency in Spanish or other languages to serve our diverse community.
