Job Description
We are seeking a highly motivated and experienced NGO Project Officer to join our dynamic team in Wuse 2, Abuja. This pivotal role is central to the effective planning, implementation, and monitoring of our humanitarian and charity programs across various sectors, including health, nutrition, and WASH (Water, Sanitation, and Hygiene). The Project Officer will work under the direct supervision of the Project Coordinator, playing a crucial part in translating strategic objectives into tangible project outcomes that directly benefit vulnerable populations.
Key responsibilities will include contributing to the development of detailed project work plans, ensuring adherence to project timelines, budgets, and quality standards. You will be instrumental in coordinating with field teams, local partners, and community leaders to facilitate smooth project execution and foster strong stakeholder relationships. This role demands a proactive individual who can identify potential challenges, propose adaptive solutions, and ensure that our interventions are culturally sensitive and meet the specific needs of the communities we serve.
The Project Officer will also be responsible for rigorous data collection, analysis, and reporting to monitor project progress against established indicators. A significant part of the role involves ensuring compliance with both MSF’s internal policies and donor requirements, fostering transparency and good governance. Key Responsibilities
- Contribute to the detailed planning and implementation of assigned project activities, ensuring alignment with project goals and objectives.
- Monitor project progress against work plans, budgets, and logical frameworks, identifying deviations and proposing corrective actions.
- Facilitate coordination meetings with field teams, local partners, and community representatives to ensure smooth project execution and information flow.
- Conduct regular field visits to project sites to oversee activities, provide technical support, and gather feedback from beneficiaries.
- Prepare timely and accurate project reports (narrative and financial) for internal stakeholders and external donors, highlighting achievements, challenges, and lessons learned.
- Support the Project Coordinator in budget management, including tracking expenditures and ensuring compliance with financial guidelines.
- Ensure all project activities comply with MSF's operational guidelines, humanitarian principles, and relevant local and international regulations.
- Participate in needs assessments, baseline studies, and evaluations to inform program design and adaptation.
- Contribute to the development of communication materials and advocacy efforts related to project outcomes and impact.
- Support capacity building initiatives for local staff and community volunteers, enhancing their skills and involvement in program delivery.
Required Skills
- Bachelor's degree in Social Sciences, Development Studies, Public Health, International Relations, or a related field.
- Minimum of 3 years of demonstrated experience in project management within an NGO or humanitarian context.
- Proven ability to manage project cycles, including planning, implementation, monitoring, and evaluation.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with attention to detail.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills in English.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook).
- Ability to work effectively in a multicultural team and challenging environments.
- Demonstrated understanding of humanitarian principles and commitment to MSF's values.
Preferred Qualifications
- Master's degree in a relevant field.
- Experience working in emergency response or conflict-affected settings.
- Fluency in a local Nigerian language (e.g., Hausa, Igbo, Yoruba).
- Experience in report writing for institutional donors (e.g., ECHO, USAID, UN agencies).
- Knowledge of data collection and analysis tools (e.g., KoboToolbox, ODK, SPSS).
