As a Field Officer, you will be instrumental in translating project goals into actionable plans at the grassroots level. You will coordinate and oversee project activities, conduct community mobilization, facilitate workshops, and gather crucial data that informs our strategies and reporting. Key Responsibilities

  • Plan, coordinate, and implement project activities at the community level in alignment with project objectives and work plans.
  • Mobilize community members, local leaders, and relevant stakeholders for project activities, ensuring active participation and ownership.
  • Conduct regular field visits to project sites to monitor progress, identify challenges, and provide on-the-spot support and solutions.
  • Facilitate community meetings, workshops, and training sessions, ensuring clear communication and effective knowledge transfer.
  • Collect, compile, and report accurate data on project activities, outcomes, and challenges, contributing to M&E efforts.
  • Prepare comprehensive field reports, progress updates, and case studies to document project impact and lessons learned.
  • Maintain strong relationships with community members, traditional rulers, youth groups, women's associations, and other local partners.
  • Identify and document success stories, best practices, and innovative approaches from field implementation.
  • Ensure adherence to organizational policies, ethical guidelines, and donor requirements in all field operations.
  • Represent SDN positively in community settings, fostering trust and demonstrating our commitment to local development.

Required Skills

  • Minimum of 2 years of proven experience in community development, project implementation, or field coordination within an NGO setting.
  • Strong understanding of the socio-economic and political context of the Niger Delta region, particularly Rivers State.
  • Excellent communication, negotiation, and interpersonal skills, with the ability to engage diverse community groups effectively.
  • Demonstrated ability to mobilize and facilitate community-led initiatives and participatory approaches.
  • Proficiency in data collection, basic analysis, and report writing.
  • Fluency in English and at least one local language spoken in Igwuruta/Obio-Akpor (e.g., Ikwerre).
  • Strong organizational skills and the ability to manage multiple tasks and deadlines in a dynamic environment.
  • Proficient in using Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint).
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team, often in challenging field conditions.
  • Valid motorcycle riding license and ability to ride (if required for field mobility).

Preferred Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree or HND in Social Sciences, Community Development, Rural Development, Public Administration, or a related field.
  • Experience working on projects related to environmental justice, peacebuilding, livelihoods, or governance.
  • Familiarity with participatory rural appraisal (PRA) tools and methodologies.
  • Previous experience with conflict resolution and peacebuilding initiatives at the community level.
  • Knowledge of donor reporting requirements and M&E frameworks.
