Job Description

Are you an experienced and compassionate driver looking to make a meaningful impact within your community? Framework Housing Association is seeking a dedicated NGO Driver – Logistics & Field to join our dynamic team, primarily operating out of our Mapperley Park hub in Nottingham. This crucial role is more than just driving; it’s about being the backbone of our field operations, ensuring that vital resources, staff, and beneficiaries are transported safely and efficiently to where they are needed most. You will be responsible for the safe and timely transportation of colleagues to various service locations, delivering essential supplies to our supported housing schemes and outreach points, and potentially assisting in the transport of vulnerable individuals to appointments or safe accommodation, always adhering to strict safety protocols and our organisation’s values. This position requires someone with excellent road safety awareness, a meticulous approach to vehicle maintenance, and a genuine commitment to Framework’s mission. You will play a pivotal role in enabling our frontline teams to deliver essential services, directly contributing to our efforts to combat homelessness and support vulnerable people across Nottingham. The successful candidate will demonstrate reliability, discretion, and a proactive attitude towards their responsibilities, understanding the critical nature of their support to our broader humanitarian and social initiatives. Your day-to-day will involve careful route planning, accurate record-keeping of mileage and vehicle checks, and ensuring all transported items and individuals are handled with the utmost care and confidentiality.

Key Responsibilities

  • Safely and efficiently transport staff, service users, and essential supplies to various Framework locations and partner sites across Nottingham and surrounding areas.
  • Perform daily vehicle inspections and ensure vehicles are maintained to a high standard of cleanliness and operational safety.
  • Assist with loading and unloading of supplies and equipment, ensuring items are secured properly during transit.
  • Maintain accurate logbooks of journeys, mileage, fuel consumption, and vehicle maintenance records.
  • Adhere strictly to all road safety regulations, organisational policies, and safeguarding procedures.
  • Communicate effectively with dispatch, colleagues, and beneficiaries, providing updates on routes and potential delays.
  • Report any vehicle faults, accidents, or incidents promptly and accurately.
  • Provide respectful and compassionate assistance to service users during transport, ensuring their comfort and safety.
  • Assist with basic administrative and logistical tasks as required to support field operations.

Required Skills

  • Valid UK Driving License (Category B minimum)
  • Clean driving record with no major endorsements
  • Proven experience in a professional driving role (e.g., courier, community transport, logistics)
  • Excellent knowledge of Nottingham and surrounding areas
  • Strong understanding of vehicle maintenance basics and road safety regulations
  • Ability to plan routes efficiently and manage time effectively
  • Good communication and interpersonal skills
  • Reliable, punctual, and highly organised
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team
  • Empathy, patience, and a non-judgmental attitude towards vulnerable individuals.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Advanced Driving Certificate (e.g., RoSPA, IAM RoadSmart)
  • Experience working within the charity or non-profit sector
  • Basic first aid certification
  • Knowledge of safeguarding policies and procedures relating to vulnerable adults and children.
