This position focuses heavily on both network connectivity – optimizing performance, managing traffic, and ensuring high availability – and network security – protecting our vital assets from evolving cyber threats. You will be responsible for the day-to-day management of our LAN/WAN environments, including routing, switching, and wireless systems, while also playing a key role in the configuration and management of firewalls, intrusion detection/prevention systems (IDPS), and VPN solutions.

Beyond routine maintenance, you will contribute to strategic projects, evaluating new technologies, performing vulnerability assessments, and implementing security best practices to harden our network perimeter. The ideal candidate will possess a deep understanding of network protocols, security principles, and a proactive approach to problem-solving. You’ll work collaboratively with cross-functional teams, providing expert guidance and support to maintain our high standards of service and security. This is an exciting opportunity to make a tangible impact on the reliability and security of critical financial systems within a leading Caribbean institution. We are looking for someone who thrives in a fast-paced environment, is detail-oriented, and committed to continuous learning and improvement in the ever-evolving landscape of network technology.

Key Responsibilities

  • Design, implement, configure, and maintain network hardware and software, including routers, switches, firewalls, and wireless access points.
  • Monitor network performance and availability, troubleshoot complex network issues, and perform root cause analysis to ensure optimal uptime.

  • Develop and maintain comprehensive network documentation, including diagrams, configurations, and standard operating procedures.
  • Conduct regular network vulnerability assessments and implement remediation strategies to enhance security posture.
  • Participate in the planning and execution of network upgrades, migrations, and new technology deployments.
  • Respond to and resolve network security incidents, performing forensic analysis where required.
  • Collaborate with other IT teams to ensure seamless integration of network services with server, application, and cloud infrastructure.
  • Provide technical guidance and support to junior network staff and other IT personnel.

Required Skills

  • Proven experience (3-5 years) as a Network Engineer, specifically in connectivity and security.
  • Strong knowledge of TCP/IP, routing protocols (BGP, OSPF, EIGRP), and switching technologies (VLANs, STP, EtherChannel).
  • Hands-on experience with major network vendor equipment (e.g., Cisco, Juniper, Fortinet, Palo Alto Networks).
  • Expertise in configuring and managing firewalls, VPNs (IPsec, SSL), and other network security appliances.
  • Familiarity with network monitoring tools (e.g., SolarWinds, PRTG, Zabbix).
  • Solid understanding of network segmentation, access control lists (ACLs), and intrusion detection/prevention systems.
  • Excellent problem-solving and analytical skills with a methodical approach to troubleshooting.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team in a fast-paced, high-pressure environment.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.

Preferred Qualifications
