Key Responsibilities
- Design, install, configure, and maintain local area networks (LANs), wide area networks (WANs), and other data communications systems.
- Monitor network performance, availability, and security using various tools; identify and resolve network issues promptly.
- Implement and manage network security measures, including firewalls, intrusion detection/prevention systems, VPNs, and access control lists.
- Perform routine network maintenance tasks, including backups, patching, and upgrades of network hardware and software.
- Troubleshoot complex network problems, diagnose connectivity issues, and restore service with minimal disruption.
- Manage and configure network devices such as routers, switches, access points, and servers.
- Develop and maintain comprehensive network documentation, including diagrams, configurations, and inventory.
- Provide technical support to end-users on network-related issues and ensure optimal network usability.
- Collaborate with other IT staff and departments to ensure seamless integration of network services with overall IT infrastructure.
- Stay current with emerging network technologies, security threats, and best practices to ensure the network remains robust and secure.
Required Skills
- Strong understanding of TCP/IP protocols, routing protocols (OSPF, BGP), and switching technologies (VLANs, STP).
- Proven experience with network security principles, firewall configuration (e.g., Cisco ASA, Palo Alto, FortiGate), and VPN management.
- Proficiency in administering and troubleshooting Windows Server and Linux operating systems in a networked environment.
- Experience with network monitoring tools (e.g., Nagios, Zabbix, PRTG).
- Excellent problem-solving and analytical skills with a methodical approach to troubleshooting.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team in a fast-paced, critical environment.
- Strong communication skills, both verbal and written, for documentation and user support.
- Familiarity with network cabling standards and physical layer troubleshooting.
Preferred Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related field.
- Industry certifications such as CCNA, CCNP, CompTIA Network+, or Security+.
- Experience with VoIP systems and quality of service (QoS) implementation.
- Knowledge of wireless networking technologies and security best practices.
- Familiarity with cloud networking concepts (e.g., AWS, Azure) and hybrid environments.
- Experience working in a telecommunications or ISP environment.
