Job Description

Calabar International School is seeking a passionate and highly skilled Music Teacher to join our dynamic faculty. This is a unique opportunity for an individual with a deep love for music and a commitment to inspiring young minds. The successful candidate will be responsible for delivering engaging instrument lessons across various disciplines, ranging from piano and guitar to wind and string instruments. Beyond classroom instruction, this role is crucial in developing and overseeing our extracurricular music programs, including school choirs, bands, and ensemble groups. Key Responsibilities

  • Develop and deliver comprehensive instrument lessons (e.g., piano, guitar, violin, flute, drums) to students of varying ages and skill levels.
  • Design and implement engaging music curriculum that aligns with school standards and promotes musical literacy and appreciation.
  • Lead, direct, and expand extracurricular music programs, including school choir, band, orchestra, and other ensemble groups.
  • Organize, plan, and execute student musical performances, concerts, recitals, and productions throughout the academic year.
  • Assess student progress regularly, provide constructive feedback, and communicate effectively with parents regarding student development.
  • Maintain a well-organized and inspiring music learning environment, ensuring the proper care and maintenance of musical instruments and equipment.
  • Collaborate with other faculty members on interdisciplinary projects and school-wide events.
  • Stay updated with current trends in music education and continuously seek professional development opportunities.

Required Skills

  • Bachelor's degree in Music Education, Music Performance, or a related field.
  • Proficiency in at least two musical instruments (one primary, one secondary).
  • Demonstrated experience in teaching music to children and adolescents.
  • Strong understanding of music theory, history, and various genres.
  • Excellent classroom management and student engagement skills.
  • Ability to plan, organize, and direct musical performances.
  • Exceptional communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Fluency in English (written and spoken).

Preferred Qualifications

  • Master's degree in Music Education or a related field.
  • Experience with international curricula (e.g., IB, Cambridge).
  • Specialization in a less common instrument or vocal coaching.
  • Certification in specific music teaching methodologies (e.g., Orff, Kodaly, Suzuki).
  • Experience with music technology and software for composition or recording.
