Job Description

We are seeking an enthusiastic, highly skilled, and passionate Music Teacher to join our dedicated team at Cantonian High School. This is an exceptional opportunity for an educator who is eager to make a significant impact on students’ lives through the power of music. As a Music Teacher, you will be responsible for delivering engaging and high-quality music lessons across Key Stages 3 and 4, fostering a love for music in all its forms, and preparing students for formal qualifications and further musical pursuits. Key Responsibilities

  • Plan, prepare, and deliver engaging and differentiated music lessons to students across Key Stages 3 and 4.
  • Assess, monitor, record, and report on the progress and attainment of students, providing constructive feedback.
  • Develop and implement creative schemes of work that incorporate various musical genres, practical skills, and music technology.
  • Organise and lead extra-curricular music activities, including choirs, instrumental ensembles, and music clubs.
  • Contribute to the planning and execution of school concerts, productions, and other musical events.
  • Foster a positive and inclusive learning environment where all students feel confident to explore their musical talents.
  • Support students' personal and social development, acting as a form tutor when required.
  • Maintain high standards of classroom management and student behaviour in line with school policies.
  • Participate in departmental and whole-school meetings, contributing to curriculum development and school improvement initiatives.
  • Engage in continuous professional development to enhance teaching practice and subject knowledge.

Required Skills

  • Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) or equivalent recognized teaching qualification.
  • Bachelor's degree in Music or a related field.
  • Demonstrable experience teaching Music at Key Stages 3 and 4.
  • Proficiency in playing at least one musical instrument to a high standard.
  • Strong understanding of music theory, history, and a wide range of musical genres.
  • Excellent classroom management and communication skills.
  • Ability to inspire and motivate students of diverse abilities and backgrounds.
  • Commitment to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and young people.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience with music technology and software (e.g., GarageBand, Logic Pro, Sibelius).
  • Ability to lead and direct choirs or instrumental ensembles.
  • Experience in preparing students for GCSE Music examinations.
  • Knowledge of the Welsh education curriculum and assessment frameworks.
  • Additional experience in performing arts or drama.
