Job Description
We are seeking an enthusiastic, highly skilled, and passionate Music Teacher to join our dedicated team at Cantonian High School. As a Music Teacher, you will be responsible for delivering engaging and high-quality music lessons across Key Stages 3 and 4, fostering a love for music in all its forms, and preparing students for formal qualifications and further musical pursuits. Key Responsibilities
- Plan, prepare, and deliver engaging and differentiated music lessons to students across Key Stages 3 and 4.
- Assess, monitor, record, and report on the progress and attainment of students, providing constructive feedback.
- Develop and implement creative schemes of work that incorporate various musical genres, practical skills, and music technology.
- Organise and lead extra-curricular music activities, including choirs, instrumental ensembles, and music clubs.
- Contribute to the planning and execution of school concerts, productions, and other musical events.
- Foster a positive and inclusive learning environment where all students feel confident to explore their musical talents.
- Support students' personal and social development, acting as a form tutor when required.
- Maintain high standards of classroom management and student behaviour in line with school policies.
- Participate in departmental and whole-school meetings, contributing to curriculum development and school improvement initiatives.
- Engage in continuous professional development to enhance teaching practice and subject knowledge.
Required Skills
- Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) or equivalent recognized teaching qualification.
- Bachelor's degree in Music or a related field.
- Demonstrable experience teaching Music at Key Stages 3 and 4.
- Proficiency in playing at least one musical instrument to a high standard.
- Strong understanding of music theory, history, and a wide range of musical genres.
- Excellent classroom management and communication skills.
- Ability to inspire and motivate students of diverse abilities and backgrounds.
- Commitment to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and young people.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience with music technology and software (e.g., GarageBand, Logic Pro, Sibelius).
- Ability to lead and direct choirs or instrumental ensembles.
- Experience in preparing students for GCSE Music examinations.
- Knowledge of the Welsh education curriculum and assessment frameworks.
- Additional experience in performing arts or drama.
