Job Description

CARE Ethiopia is seeking a highly motivated and detail-oriented Entry-Level Monitoring and Evaluation (M&E) Officer to join our dynamic team in Addis Ababa. This is an exciting opportunity for a recent graduate or an individual with limited experience who is passionate about international development and eager to learn and grow in the M&E field. The M&E Officer will play a crucial supporting role in ensuring the effective monitoring and evaluation of CARE Ethiopia’s various programs. Under the direct supervision of a senior M&E specialist, you will contribute to the systematic collection, analysis, and reporting of data, helping to track program progress, measure impact, and inform strategic decision-making. Your work will be instrumental in demonstrating accountability to donors and beneficiaries and in fostering continuous learning and improvement within our projects. This role involves both office-based tasks and potential for supervised field visits to program sites across different regions of Ethiopia, providing a comprehensive understanding of program implementation challenges and successes. Key Responsibilities

  • Support the development and implementation of project monitoring plans, tools, and databases.
  • Assist in the collection, entry, and cleaning of qualitative and quantitative program data from various sources.
  • Conduct basic data analysis using spreadsheets and present findings in a clear and concise manner.
  • Contribute to the preparation of timely and accurate M&E reports, including monthly, quarterly, and annual progress reports.
  • Participate in field monitoring visits to program sites, ensuring data quality and providing technical support to field staff.
  • Maintain accurate and up-to-date M&E files and documentation.
  • Support the M&E team in conducting program reviews, evaluations, and learning events.
  • Participate in capacity-building initiatives for program staff on M&E concepts and tools.

Required Skills

  • Bachelor’s degree in Social Sciences, Statistics, Development Studies, Economics, Public Health, or a related field.
  • Strong analytical skills with the ability to collect, organize, analyze, and disseminate significant amounts of information with attention to detail and accuracy.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, Word, PowerPoint).
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills in English.
  • Ability to work effectively in a team environment and independently with minimal supervision.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Prior internship or volunteer experience in monitoring and evaluation within a non-profit or development context.
  • Familiarity with data collection tools such as KoboToolbox, ODK, or similar platforms.
  • Knowledge of Amharic or other local Ethiopian languages.
  • Basic understanding of statistical software packages (e.g., SPSS, R, Stata) is a plus.
  • Experience in report writing and presentation of data to various audiences.
