Key Responsibilities
- Conduct comprehensive patient history taking and thorough physical examinations under the direct supervision of senior medical staff.
- Assist diligently in the accurate diagnosis and effective management of a wide array of medical conditions.
- Order and meticulously interpret diagnostic tests (e.g., laboratory tests, imaging studies) as clinically appropriate and necessary.
- Develop, implement, and adjust individualized patient treatment plans in close collaboration with experienced senior medical staff.
- Monitor patient progress meticulously, adjusting treatments as clinically necessary, and accurately documenting all findings in a timely manner.
- Provide clear, concise, and compassionate communication to patients and their families regarding their medical condition, treatment plans, and prognosis.
- Actively participate in daily ward rounds, clinical meetings, and internal educational sessions to foster continuous learning.
- Adhere strictly to all medical ethics guidelines, patient confidentiality protocols, and established hospital policies and procedures.
- Collaborate effectively and respectfully with nurses, allied health professionals, and administrative staff to ensure seamless patient care.
- Contribute proactively to continuous quality improvement initiatives within the assigned department and across the organization.
Required Skills
- Medical Degree (MBBS or equivalent) from a recognized and accredited institution.
- Registered or eligible for immediate registration with the Medical Council of Mauritius.
- Strong foundational knowledge of core medical principles, practices, and clinical procedures.
- Excellent verbal and written communication and interpersonal skills, essential for patient and team interaction.
- Demonstrated ability to work effectively and collaboratively within a fast-paced, multidisciplinary healthcare team.
- High level of empathy, compassion, professionalism, and ethical conduct.
- Strong problem-solving, critical thinking, and decision-making abilities under pressure.
- Proficiency in both English and French (both written and spoken) is highly advantageous.
- Basic computer literacy and familiarity with electronic medical record (EMR) systems.
Preferred Qualifications
- Prior internship or clinical rotation experience in a reputable hospital or clinical setting.
- Evidence of commitment to continuous professional development (CPD) activities.
- Basic Life Support (BLS) and Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS) certification.
- Familiarity with or experience using specific electronic health record (EHR) systems prevalent in Mauritius.
