Key Responsibilities
- Perform routine preventative maintenance on mechanical systems and equipment, including conveyors, sorting machines, and packaging lines.
- Diagnose mechanical faults and execute timely repairs to minimise downtime and ensure operational continuity.
- Conduct systematic inspections to identify potential issues and implement corrective actions.
- Read and interpret technical drawings, schematics, and service manuals accurately.
- Install, test, and commission new mechanical equipment as required.
- Adhere strictly to all health, safety, and environmental regulations and company policies.
- Collaborate effectively with electrical technicians, operations teams, and external contractors.
- Maintain accurate records of all maintenance activities, repairs, and parts used.
- Identify and implement continuous improvement opportunities for equipment reliability and efficiency.
- Participate in training and development programs to enhance technical skills and knowledge.
Required Skills
- Proven experience as a Mechanical Technician or similar role in an industrial or manufacturing setting.
- Strong understanding of mechanical principles, hydraulics, pneumatics, and power transmission systems.
- Proficiency in fault diagnosis and repair of complex machinery.
- Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings, schematics, and technical specifications.
- Familiarity with various hand and power tools safely and effectively.
- Excellent problem-solving skills and a proactive approach to maintenance.
- Strong commitment to health and safety standards.
- Good communication and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a multidisciplinary team.
- English language proficiency sufficient for workplace communication and safety instructions.
Preferred Qualifications
- NVQ Level 3 or equivalent qualification in Mechanical Engineering or a related field.
- Relevant professional certifications (e.g., IOSH, NEBOSH, specific machinery training).
- Experience with PLC-controlled systems and basic electrical fault finding.
- Previous experience in a high-volume distribution or automated warehouse environment.
- Demonstrated ability to train and mentor junior technicians.
