Job Description

We are seeking a highly skilled and dedicated Mechanical Fitter to join our team, supporting our operational requirements and infrastructure in Athens. While our core operations are in remote locations, this role provides crucial support and expertise for local projects, maintenance, and logistics coordination that underpin our global activities. The successful candidate will be responsible for the installation, maintenance, and repair of mechanical plant equipment and machinery. This includes a wide range of tasks from routine inspections and preventative maintenance to complex fault diagnosis and rectification. You will work within a dynamic environment, ensuring that all mechanical systems operate safely, efficiently, and in compliance with BHP’s stringent safety standards and operational protocols. This role requires a proactive approach to problem-solving, a strong commitment to safety, and the ability to work collaboratively within a team. Key Responsibilities

  • Perform routine preventative maintenance and inspections on a variety of mechanical equipment and systems.
  • Diagnose and troubleshoot mechanical faults, breakdowns, and operational issues accurately and efficiently.
  • Execute repairs, replacements, and overhauls of mechanical components, including pumps, valves, gearboxes, conveyors, and hydraulic systems.
  • Install new mechanical equipment, ensuring proper alignment, calibration, and commissioning.
  • Adhere strictly to all safety procedures, lockout/tagout protocols, and environmental regulations.
  • Maintain detailed records of maintenance activities, parts used, and equipment performance.
  • Collaborate with other trades, engineers, and operational staff to optimize equipment reliability and uptime.
  • Identify opportunities for continuous improvement in mechanical processes and equipment functionality.
  • Participate in risk assessments and implement corrective actions to prevent future incidents.
  • Contribute to a positive and safe working culture through active participation and adherence to company values.

Required Skills

  • Proven experience as a Mechanical Fitter in an industrial or heavy industry setting.
  • Strong knowledge of mechanical principles, hydraulics, pneumatics, and rotating equipment.
  • Ability to read and interpret technical drawings, blueprints, and schematics.
  • Proficiency in using a variety of hand and power tools safely and effectively.
  • Excellent fault-finding and diagnostic skills.
  • Strong commitment to workplace safety and adherence to health and safety regulations.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a multidisciplinary team.
  • Good communication and interpersonal skills.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Vocational qualification or Diploma in Mechanical Engineering or a related field.
  • Experience with Computerized Maintenance Management Systems (CMMS).
  • Certification in specific mechanical trades (e.g., welding, rigging).
  • Familiarity with lean manufacturing or continuous improvement methodologies.
