Key Responsibilities
- Design, analyze, and optimize mechanical systems for naval vessels, including propulsion, auxiliary machinery, and structural components.
- Conduct engineering calculations, simulations (e.g., FEA), and stress analysis to ensure design integrity and performance.
- Develop detailed technical specifications, engineering drawings, reports, and documentation in accordance with industry and military standards.
- Participate in all phases of the engineering lifecycle, from concept development and preliminary design to detailed design, testing, and commissioning.
- Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams, including electrical, marine, and structural engineers, as well as project managers and trades personnel.
- Troubleshoot and resolve complex mechanical issues during repair, overhaul, and modernization projects.
- Ensure compliance with relevant regulatory bodies, classification societies, and quality assurance procedures (e.g., NAVSEA, ABS).
- Provide technical support and guidance during the fabrication, installation, and testing of mechanical systems.
- Stay abreast of new technologies, materials, and methods in mechanical and marine engineering.
Required Skills
- Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related field from an accredited institution.
- Minimum of 3 years of progressive experience in mechanical design and analysis.
- Proficiency in CAD software (e.g., AutoCAD, SolidWorks, CATIA) and engineering analysis tools.
- Strong understanding of mechanical design principles, thermodynamics, fluid mechanics, and materials science.
- Excellent problem-solving, analytical, and critical thinking skills.
- Demonstrated ability to work effectively in a team-oriented environment and manage multiple tasks.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills for technical reporting and collaboration.
- Eligibility to obtain a security clearance (applicants must be able to obtain and maintain a U.S. security clearance, which may be contingent upon citizenship status and other factors).
- Understanding and willingness to navigate the U.S. immigration process for potential visa sponsorship.
Preferred Qualifications
- Master's degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related advanced degree.
- Professional Engineer (PE) license or actively working towards licensure.
- Experience in the marine, defense, aerospace, or heavy industrial sectors.
- Familiarity with shipbuilding standards, naval architecture, and maritime regulations (e.g., NAVSEA, ABS, DNV).
- Experience with project management methodologies and tools.
- Knowledge of shipboard systems and components, including propulsion plants, auxiliary machinery, and HVAC systems.
- Demonstrated experience with finite element analysis (FEA) software for structural and thermal analysis.
