Job Description
We are seeking a highly motivated and skilled Mechanical Engineer to join our manufacturing plant in Isiro, Haut-Uélé Province. This crucial role involves overseeing the installation, maintenance, and repair of a wide range of mechanical equipment and systems within our palm oil processing facility. The successful candidate will be instrumental in ensuring the continuous and efficient operation of our machinery, minimizing downtime, and optimizing plant performance. You will be responsible for implementing preventative maintenance programs, troubleshooting complex mechanical issues, and leading improvement projects to enhance productivity and safety. Key Responsibilities
- Develop, implement, and manage preventative and predictive maintenance programs for all mechanical equipment within the manufacturing plant.
- Diagnose and troubleshoot complex mechanical failures in processing machinery, pumps, motors, conveyors, and hydraulic/pneumatic systems.
- Oversee the installation, commissioning, and optimization of new mechanical equipment, ensuring adherence to specifications and safety standards.
- Conduct regular inspections and performance assessments of plant machinery to identify potential issues and recommend corrective actions.
- Manage spare parts inventory for mechanical components, ensuring availability to minimize downtime.
- Lead or participate in improvement projects aimed at enhancing equipment reliability, efficiency, and safety.
- Collaborate with production, electrical, and operations teams to optimize overall plant performance.
- Ensure compliance with all safety regulations and company policies, promoting a culture of safety among all personnel.
- Prepare technical reports, maintenance logs, and documentation for all mechanical work performed.
- Provide technical training and mentorship to junior technicians and plant operators on mechanical systems.
Required Skills
- Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related field.
- Minimum of 4 years of progressive experience in a manufacturing or industrial plant environment, preferably in agricultural processing, food processing, or heavy industry.
- Strong knowledge of mechanical systems, including hydraulics, pneumatics, rotating equipment, power transmission, and material handling systems.
- Proficiency in reading and interpreting technical drawings, schematics, and P&IDs.
- Demonstrated experience with CMMS (Computerized Maintenance Management Systems).
- Excellent problem-solving, analytical, and troubleshooting skills.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a multidisciplinary team.
- Strong communication skills in English (verbal and written); knowledge of French or Swahili is a plus.
- Commitment to safety and quality standards.
Preferred Qualifications
- Master's degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related discipline.
- Experience with Lean Manufacturing or Six Sigma methodologies.
- Familiarity with specific equipment used in palm oil processing (e.g., sterilizers, presses, centrifuges, boilers).
- Project management experience in an industrial setting.
- Professional engineering certification or license.
