Job Description
We are seeking a highly skilled and dedicated Mechanical Engineer with a specialized focus on industrial machinery and complex systems to join our dynamic engineering team in Spaldings. In this pivotal role, you will be instrumental in ensuring the optimal performance, reliability, and safety of our diverse range of mechanical equipment and processing systems. This encompasses everything from heavy industrial machinery used in raw material processing to intricate control systems and utility infrastructure. You will be responsible for applying advanced mechanical engineering principles to design, analyze, troubleshoot, and optimize plant machinery, ensuring compliance with international standards and internal protocols. This position requires a proactive problem-solver with a meticulous approach to engineering challenges, capable of working independently and collaboratively within a multidisciplinary team. Your expertise will directly contribute to our operational efficiency, reduction of downtime, and overall productivity, playing a crucial part in our ongoing success within the bauxite and alumina sector. The ideal candidate will possess a strong foundational understanding of mechanical dynamics, fluid mechanics, thermodynamics, and material science, coupled with practical experience in a heavy industrial environment. Key Responsibilities
- Design, develop, and test mechanical components, equipment, and systems for industrial applications, ensuring adherence to specifications and safety standards.
- Perform routine and preventative maintenance planning, troubleshooting, and repair of a wide range of industrial machinery, including pumps, compressors, conveyors, crushers, and hydraulic systems.
- Conduct detailed engineering analyses (stress, vibration, fatigue) to predict and prevent mechanical failures and optimize equipment performance.
- Manage and execute engineering projects from conception to completion, including scope definition, budget management, scheduling, and contractor oversight.
- Develop and implement engineering solutions to improve operational efficiency, reduce energy consumption, and enhance equipment reliability and longevity.
- Prepare technical reports, specifications, and project documentation, ensuring clarity and accuracy.
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams, including operations, electrical, civil, and safety departments, to integrate mechanical systems effectively.
- Ensure all mechanical engineering activities comply with local and international health, safety, environmental, and quality regulations.
- Participate in root cause analysis for equipment failures and implement corrective and preventive actions.
- Provide technical guidance and mentorship to junior engineers and maintenance technicians.
Required Skills
- Proficiency in CAD software (e.g., AutoCAD, SolidWorks, Inventor)
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with a practical approach to engineering challenges
- In-depth knowledge of mechanical engineering principles, including statics, dynamics, fluid mechanics, thermodynamics, and material science
- Experience with industrial maintenance practices and reliability engineering
- Familiarity with relevant industry standards (e.g., ASME, API)
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
- Ability to read and interpret complex engineering drawings and schematics

Preferred Qualifications
- Master's degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related field
- Professional Engineer (PE) license or eligibility for registration in Jamaica
