Job Description
We are seeking a highly motivated and experienced Mechanical Engineer to join our dynamic team in Uyo, Akwa Ibom State. This pivotal role involves overseeing the entire lifecycle management, maintenance, and optimization of our heavy machinery, industrial equipment, and vehicle fleet utilized across our diverse construction and engineering projects. Key Responsibilities
- Develop, implement, and manage comprehensive preventive and corrective maintenance programs for heavy construction machinery, industrial equipment, and company vehicles.
- Conduct regular inspections, diagnostic tests, and performance evaluations on mechanical systems to identify potential issues and ensure optimal operational performance.
- Troubleshoot complex mechanical failures, perform detailed root cause analysis, and implement effective, sustainable solutions to minimize equipment downtime.
- Oversee the repair, overhaul, and installation of machinery and equipment, ensuring strict adherence to manufacturer specifications, industry best practices, and stringent safety standards.
- Manage spare parts inventory, procure necessary components and consumables, and liaise effectively with suppliers to ensure timely availability and cost efficiency.
- Supervise, train, and mentor a team of technicians and mechanics, providing technical guidance, fostering skill development, and promoting a strong culture of safety and operational excellence.
- Prepare detailed technical reports on equipment performance, maintenance activities, asset utilization, and comprehensive cost analyses for management review.
- Collaborate closely with project managers, site engineers, and procurement teams to schedule maintenance activities, optimize equipment utilization, and support project timelines.
- Ensure strict compliance with all relevant local and international health, safety, and environmental regulations, as well as company policies and procedures.
- Proactively recommend and implement improvements to machinery, equipment, and maintenance processes to enhance efficiency, safety, and overall cost-effectiveness.
- Participate in the technical evaluation and selection of new machinery and equipment for various project-specific needs and future investments.
Required Skills
- Proficiency in mechanical design and analysis software (e.g., AutoCAD, SolidWorks, or similar).
- Strong foundational understanding of heavy machinery mechanics, hydraulics, pneumatics, and basic electrical systems.
- Demonstrated hands-on experience with preventive, predictive, and corrective maintenance strategies.
- Excellent diagnostic, troubleshooting, and problem-solving capabilities for complex mechanical systems.
- Ability to accurately read and interpret technical drawings, schematics, engineering specifications, and equipment manuals.
- Strong project management, organizational, and time management skills.
- Effective written and verbal communication, and strong interpersonal abilities to work collaboratively within a team.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint) for reporting and data analysis.
Preferred Qualifications
- Master's degree in Mechanical Engineering or a closely related engineering discipline.
- Possession of a professional engineering license (e.g., COREN in Nigeria or equivalent international certification).
- Proven experience with Computerized Maintenance Management Systems (CMMS).
- In-depth knowledge of industry-specific safety standards and regulations (e.g., OSHA, ISO standards).
- Previous experience in the construction, oil & gas, mining, or heavy industrial sectors.
- Demonstrated leadership experience in managing and developing a team of technicians or junior engineers.
