Job Description
Lafarge Africa Plc is seeking an experienced and highly motivated Mechanical Engineer to join our dynamic team in Elimgbu, Port Harcourt. This is a critical role responsible for ensuring the optimal performance, reliability, and maintenance of all mechanical equipment and systems within our plant operations. The successful candidate will be instrumental in supporting our production targets through effective preventative and corrective maintenance strategies, continuous improvement initiatives, and strict adherence to safety and environmental standards.
As a Mechanical Engineer at Lafarge Africa, you will be a key contributor to our operational excellence. Key Responsibilities
- Execute preventative, predictive, and corrective maintenance activities on mechanical equipment, including conveyors, crushers, mills, kilns, pumps, and fans.
- Diagnose complex mechanical failures and implement effective repair solutions to minimize downtime and optimize plant availability.
- Develop and implement maintenance strategies and schedules to ensure maximum equipment reliability and performance.
- Participate in the planning and execution of capital projects, equipment upgrades, and installations.
- Ensure strict adherence to all safety protocols, environmental regulations, and company policies.
- Monitor equipment performance, analyze maintenance data, and recommend continuous improvement initiatives.
- Collaborate with production and other engineering departments to optimize operational processes and troubleshoot interdisciplinary issues.
- Manage spare parts inventory and procurement for mechanical components, ensuring availability while optimizing costs.
- Provide technical guidance and mentorship to junior engineers and maintenance technicians.
- Prepare detailed technical reports, maintenance logs, and documentation for all activities.
Required Skills
- Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related field.
- Minimum of 4 years of proven experience as a Mechanical Engineer in an industrial manufacturing environment (e.g., cement, heavy machinery, mining, oil & gas).
- Strong knowledge of industrial mechanical systems, rotating equipment, hydraulics, and pneumatics.
- Proficiency in Computerized Maintenance Management Systems (CMMS) such as SAP PM or similar.
- Ability to read and interpret technical drawings, schematics, and P&IDs.
- Excellent problem-solving, analytical, and troubleshooting skills.
- Strong understanding of safety regulations and best practices in an industrial setting.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite.
Preferred Qualifications
- Master's degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related discipline.
- Professional certification (e.g., COREN, NSE, PMP).
- Experience with condition monitoring techniques (vibration analysis, thermography).
- Familiarity with lean manufacturing principles and continuous improvement methodologies.
- Experience in the cement or building materials industry.
- Knowledge of AutoCAD or other CAD software.
