Job Description

Flour Mills of Nigeria Plc is seeking an experienced and dedicated Mechanical Engineer to join our maintenance team in Egbeda, Alimosho. This critical role involves the hands-on maintenance, troubleshooting, and repair of a wide array of mechanical equipment essential to our production processes. Key Responsibilities
- Execute planned preventative maintenance (PPM) schedules for all mechanical equipment and systems, including conveyors, pumps, gearboxes, compressors, pneumatic systems, and material handling equipment.
- Respond promptly to mechanical breakdowns, diagnose faults accurately, and perform effective corrective maintenance to minimize downtime.
- Conduct routine inspections, identify potential issues, and recommend proactive solutions to enhance equipment reliability and operational efficiency.
- Interpret engineering drawings, manuals, and specifications to facilitate repair, installation, and modification of machinery.
- Ensure strict adherence to all company safety policies, industry regulations, and environmental standards during all maintenance activities.
- Maintain accurate records of all maintenance work performed, spare parts utilized, and equipment history in the Computerized Maintenance Management System (CMMS).
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams, including production and electrical engineers, to optimize plant performance and resolve operational challenges.
- Participate in the commissioning of new equipment and plant upgrades, providing mechanical expertise and support.
- Identify opportunities for continuous improvement in maintenance procedures, equipment design, and operational practices.
- Oversee and guide junior technicians or contract staff on specific maintenance tasks as required.
Required Skills
- Bachelor's Degree in Mechanical Engineering from a recognized institution.
- Minimum of 3 years of hands-on experience in mechanical maintenance within a heavy industrial plant (e.g., manufacturing, food processing, cement, steel).
- Proficiency in troubleshooting and repairing various mechanical systems, including hydraulics, pneumatics, rotating equipment, and power transmission systems.
- Strong understanding of preventative and predictive maintenance methodologies.
- Ability to read and interpret technical drawings, schematics, and P&IDs.
- Familiarity with Computerized Maintenance Management Systems (CMMS).
- Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and decision-making skills.
- Commitment to safety and quality standards.
- Strong communication and teamwork skills.
Preferred Qualifications
- Possession of a professional certification (e.g., COREN registration, NIMechE membership).
- Experience with Lean Six Sigma or other continuous improvement methodologies.
- Knowledge of welding, fabrication, and machining techniques.
- Previous experience in a food processing or milling environment.
- Project management experience related to plant upgrades or installations.
