Job Description
Are you an experienced and highly skilled Mason with a strong focus on delivering impeccable wall and tile finishing? O’Leary Construction, a respected and growing building contractor based in the South West, is actively seeking a talented individual to join our vibrant team in Easton, Bristol. This pivotal role requires a craftsman who takes immense pride in their work, ensuring every detail contributes to the structural integrity and aesthetic perfection of our projects. As a Mason specialising in Wall & Tile Finishing, you will be instrumental in the successful completion of a wide array of construction initiatives. Your daily tasks will involve everything from the precise laying of bricks, blocks, and various stone types to constructing robust and visually appealing walls, to the meticulous installation of ceramic, porcelain, natural stone, and other tiling materials across various surfaces. You will be responsible for preparing surfaces, applying appropriate adhesives and grouts, and ensuring that all finished work is level, plumb, square, and meets the highest industry standards for durability and appearance. Collaboration is key; you will work closely with site managers, other tradespeople, and project teams to ensure seamless coordination and timely project delivery, all while adhering strictly to health and safety regulations. We expect our Masons to not only execute tasks flawlessly but also to contribute actively to problem-solving on-site, offering solutions and insights based on their extensive experience. Key Responsibilities
- Execute precise bricklaying, blockwork, and stonework for various wall constructions, ensuring structural integrity and aesthetic appeal.
- Perform accurate surface preparation, including cleaning, levelling, and priming, for both wall finishes and tile installations.
- Install a variety of wall and floor tiles (ceramic, porcelain, natural stone, mosaic, etc.) with exceptional precision and attention to detail.
- Mix and apply mortar, adhesives, and grouts correctly according to material specifications and project requirements.
- Read and interpret blueprints, drawings, and specifications to ensure accurate project execution.
- Ensure all work adheres to relevant building codes, safety regulations, and company quality standards.
- Collaborate effectively with other trades, site management, and project teams to maintain project timelines and quality.
- Conduct quality checks on finished work, making adjustments as necessary to meet O'Leary Construction's high standards.
- Maintain a clean, organised, and safe work environment at all times.
- Operate and maintain masonry tools and equipment safely and efficiently.
Required Skills
- Proven experience as a Mason or Bricklayer, with a strong portfolio of wall and tile finishing projects.
- Expertise in various masonry techniques including bricklaying, blockwork, and potentially stonework.
- Demonstrable skill in tile installation, including cutting, laying, grouting, and sealing various types of tiles.
- Thorough understanding of different mortar, adhesive, and grout types and their applications.
- Ability to accurately read and interpret technical drawings and construction blueprints.
- Strong attention to detail and commitment to producing high-quality finishes.
- Excellent problem-solving skills and ability to adapt to on-site challenges.
- Physical stamina and dexterity to perform demanding construction tasks.
- Commitment to health and safety regulations on construction sites.
- Effective communication and teamwork skills.
Preferred Qualifications
- NVQ Level 2 or 3 in Trowel Occupations, Bricklaying, or Wall and Floor Tiling.
- CSCS card (Construction Skills Certification Scheme).
- First Aid certification.
- Experience with specialist tiling materials or techniques.
- Full UK driving license with access to own transport.
