Job Description

Caesar Rodney School District is seeking a dedicated and skilled Maintenance Worker – Facility Grounds to join our committed team. In this pivotal role, you will be instrumental in ensuring that our school campuses, athletic fields, and surrounding properties are consistently well-maintained, aesthetically pleasing, and safe for our students, staff, and community members. As a key member of our Facilities Department, you will perform a wide range of groundskeeping and light maintenance tasks, from seasonal landscaping to urgent clean-up operations. Key Responsibilities
- Perform routine grounds maintenance tasks, including mowing, trimming, edging, weeding, and mulching.
- Operate and maintain various grounds equipment such as mowers, trimmers, leaf blowers, and small tractors.
- Assist with seasonal landscaping projects, including planting, pruning, and removal of foliage.
- Ensure athletic fields are properly maintained, including lining, raking, and general upkeep.
- Conduct minor repairs to fences, irrigation systems, playground equipment, and outdoor furniture.
- Remove snow, ice, and debris from walkways, parking lots, and other district properties.
- Monitor grounds for potential hazards and report necessary repairs or safety concerns.
- Maintain cleanliness and orderliness of grounds, including waste removal and litter control.
- Adhere to all safety protocols and use personal protective equipment as required.
Required Skills
- Minimum of 2 years of experience in grounds maintenance or a related field.
- Proficiency in operating various groundskeeping equipment and hand tools.
- Basic knowledge of landscaping techniques, plant care, and seasonal maintenance.
- Ability to perform physical labor, including lifting up to 50 lbs, bending, stooping, and standing for extended periods.
- Strong attention to detail and a proactive approach to problem-solving.
- Valid Driver’s License with a clean driving record.
- Ability to work effectively both independently and as part of a team.
Preferred Qualifications
- High School Diploma or GED.
- Experience working in a school district or large institutional setting.
- Knowledge of integrated pest management (IPM) practices.
- Certification in pesticide application (or willingness to obtain).
- Familiarity with minor irrigation system troubleshooting and repair.
