Your day-to-day will involve a challenging blend of reactive and proactive maintenance tasks. From diagnosing complex mechanical and electrical faults on high-speed mixers, industrial ovens, cooling tunnels, and packaging lines, to executing thorough preventative maintenance schedules designed to extend asset life and prevent costly breakdowns. Key Responsibilities

  • Perform routine preventative maintenance and calibration on all production machinery and plant equipment, adhering strictly to maintenance schedules.
  • Diagnose and troubleshoot mechanical, electrical, pneumatic, and hydraulic faults promptly and effectively to minimise production downtime.
  • Execute repairs and replacements of faulty components, ensuring all work is carried out to the highest safety and engineering standards.
  • Install and commission new plant machinery and equipment as required, working alongside contractors and internal teams.
  • Maintain accurate records of all maintenance activities, parts used, and equipment performance in the CMMS system.
  • Adhere strictly to all health and safety regulations, food hygiene standards (HACCP), and company policies.
  • Identify and implement opportunities for continuous improvement in machine reliability, efficiency, and safety.
  • Collaborate effectively with production managers and operators to understand operational needs and provide technical support.
  • Conduct safety checks and risk assessments for maintenance tasks, ensuring a safe working environment at all times.
  • Assist in training junior technicians and production staff on basic machine operation and first-line maintenance procedures.

Required Skills

  • NVQ Level 3 or equivalent in Mechanical, Electrical, or Maintenance Engineering.
  • Proven experience (minimum 4 years) as a Maintenance Technician in a manufacturing environment, ideally food production.
  • Strong fault-finding and diagnostic skills across mechanical, electrical, pneumatic, and hydraulic systems.
  • Proficiency in reading and interpreting engineering drawings, schematics, and technical manuals.
  • Working knowledge of PLC systems and basic programming/troubleshooting.
  • Demonstrable commitment to health and safety regulations and food hygiene standards.
  • Ability to work autonomously and as part of a team, demonstrating excellent communication skills.
  • Full UK driving license.

Preferred Qualifications

  • 18th Edition IEE Wiring Regulations certification.
  • Experience with CMMS (Computerised Maintenance Management Systems).
  • Familiarity with various bakery equipment (e.g., mixers, ovens, depositors, packaging lines).
  • IOSH or NEBOSH safety qualification.
  • Forklift truck and/or MEWP license.
